I was flipping channels and Good Times came on.

The beginning of the show is the great song but also a panoramic view of the now "NEW" 'OLD CHICAGO'. (OLD Chicago when I grew up use to mean Al Capone times).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqR4S40FtgY

Chicago in the 1970s. One of the worst decades for this country. And a very dangerous time in Chicago. Crime everywhere, no rule of law, and just a general loss of confidence in Americans after the turbulent 1960s.

I can go on and on but looking at the show now there's something sweet and special about it. I liked the show when it was on as it was probably the only version of black America we got back then. But I really loved watching it tonight. It was just a different America back then. Even in those though times, watching it now makes me proud of all of our people in our beautiful country.

kotter had the best theme ever. i saw on youtube the one they were going to use by Dion but it sucked. Here's the reunion special where they give John Sebastian his props.

https://youtu.be/QFaEomXxYzE?t=5m

man John Sebastian. What a legend. Will never be anyone like him again.

For you youngsters out there, one of the 1st malls with an indoor amusement park. Also, the great Mod band "The Jam" once played there. It didn't last long and certainly wasn't helped by the fact that it only had 1 entrance...stores located in the back were like a mile away.

Dunno. It was a helluva lot of fun growing up in the city in the 70s and early 80s. $15 & a supertransfer and you could see it all.

I remember thinking that it took forever to get there, that it was a long ass walk past empty storefronts to get to the amusement park, but when you got close you could smell the electricity burning/popping. And then it was worth it.

My cousins took my brother and me there once when I was very young. My memories are hazy about it except that we badgered my mom for years about it. Was so bummed when she told us it was closed. I must of been like 4.

Always had thing for Florida and Willona, as a kid watching the show, I'm sure a lot of kids did.

To this day, I still wonder who was the better building handyman, Bookman, or Schneider from One Day at a Time?
Both of them seemed to conniving.

They pretty much come on in blocks of about 10 in a row on Friday nights and Saturdays on TV One. I know because the GF watches every one faithfully as if she hasn't seen them several times before.

They do the same thing with Sanford and Son, The Cosby Show, and The Jeffersons. Sometimes they may throw a block of Living Single in there.

I don't get why people would watch dated sitcoms, unless it's for nostalgia. There is so much good new content coming out in HD.

Ratings must be pretty sufficient because they've been doing these various rerun blocks for as long as I can remember.
