it is possible that Morrow told him something prior to the game about his availability. I agree that this is a head-scratcher but if Morrow said for whatever reason he didn't feel right what can you do. I agree that some of Maddon's decisions, especially in last years post-season have been mind-bending but I will give him this: if you are on a Maddon-coached team, you had better be ready to play. He plays everyone, there is no hiding on the end of the bench. I think there is a lot of value in that and he takes a lot of abuse for all of his different lineups but come the end of the season when the post-season starts everyone has had their innings and at-bats and know where they stand.

Maybe whatever tightness he has in his back doesn't require a 10-day DL stint. Maybe he only needs another day or two off. If he has back tightness that might require another day or two off, why would you put him on the 10-day DL? That's not to say it ISN'T more serious than that and could eventually require a DL stint, but how would any of us know enough about the status of his back to know it is "stupid" not to put him on the DL? If he needs it that's what they will do.

Caratini was doing pretty well when he got sent down because bitch boy was going to opt out of his contract unless he got a 25 man roster spot.
