The cost to ride the fucking Metra is becoming a joke too....you are at around $200 a month now for a pass that is about in the Naperville/Schaumburg zone. Fuck that. It's becoming close to a wash vs driving and paying for a lot. Yeah, traffic sucks, but at least I don't have to sit next to a smelly fat ass that is either snoring or clipping their fingernails.

Because they blew $400 million on a new bullshit "Positive Train Control" system to counteract their employees falling asleep at the switch.

And they still hit at least one person a week.

Probably because the systems haven't been installed yet but for one line.....

We only have to wonder if Mr. Fast Track will be able to afford a unit in that place. Oh the irony of Fast Track in a place that has anything but fast tracks.

It strikes me that much like Soldier Field it would cost many times more to retro fit that onto Union Station than simply build another building nearby.

Yeah, I don't even understand who this is for. Who wants to live in a Schaumburgian glass box plopped onto Union Station? There's nowhere else to put condos in the West Loop?

Now the O'Hare Oasis is being torn down to add more tollway lanes!

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-m ... story.html

Big glass bridges with fast food in them, neat little novelty we had.

Good. Illinois needs modern infrastructure. Travel the US....all our major highways have so few lanes. Far less inhabited metro areas have roads that handle far more population. We need to catch up.

It's eight lanes, that's not that bad. Maybe we need fewer cars. Don't all the studies show that adding expressway lanes doesn't alleviate congestion, it just adds more cars and brings the congestion back up to the level it was at before? I-95 in Palm Beach/Broward is ten lanes and it's an absolute nightmare at rush hour.

90 is much less congested now. So... actual results 1, studies 0.

It's actually called "TOD", Transportation Oriented Development.

It's a big deal.

The O'Hare and Hinsdale Oasis are also coming down in the near future to add one lane each way on 294. It may help, but the fact that you open up to 40 lanes for the Cermak toll, then narrow it back down to 4 lanes while simultaneously having two full lanes from I-88 merge into traffic is the reason that road gets jammed up.

Thank heavens. That was ugly beyond words.

I was there a few weeks ago and the Great Hall is under some pretty heavy construction. I was looking forward to going there again but it was all dark and grim. Also, they line you up there for Amtrak now and then walk you to the track like 3rd graders lining up to go to gym class.

Right Franks. Merge points are always going to be a problem. It is almost like there should be people at universities studying this shit.

Looks like we have an Amtrak related problem. Blue line it is.

Heard them talking about it on the radio while at the same time racing an Amtrack train NB on I94 tollway near Abbott Labs.
