I don't mind the forgetfulness. I hate the constant agitation.

I can’t remember why the hell I walked into this room.

The other day I was looking for my hat... it was on my head. Also, couldn’t find my phone while talking on it.

I’ve been known to use the flashlight on my phone to help find my phone from time to time.

dolphin is right about the agitation. Shit doesn't roll off your back as much when you get older. The compulsion to kill grows. Before you know it, you're answering your phone by saying "YEAH!?"

We have a lot of really old guys on this board. I'm sure we aren't far off from having the first board member coming on here posting crazy thoughts repeatedly.

Frankly my only near term hope is a cool night of bourbon and not needing central air, followed by a short day with an early windfall.

There was a time when I would be like yeah man I'll go to that party or sure I'll eat that bag of mushrooms or go in a old sunbird with like 5 guys besides the driver stuffed in it and one in the trunk you know because sometimes you're the only guy with a car you know and that was fine, it was cool... we were young and dumb and didnt care about seatbelts or hair extensions or leather chaps. It was normal to do that. And when we did we didnt get looks or frowns or scorn from anyone seeing us walking around Wilb Walkers with our sandals and our patuchli saturated tie dye tshirts with mild profanity and band names that made no sense to the Lawrence Welk population of the time because our patuchli was their clove oil and our hippy hoo was their beatlemania and whether or not we wanted it we stepped into a war with the cabal on mars... so we got to taking out their command one by one. Sure there was graffiti on the bathroom stalls and bad jokes and cold water thrown over the curtain. And sometimes you'd run into astral vampires and sober Bobs and Gary and Glens, half empty bottles of southern comfort because he thought that any whiskey was just whiskey or drive thru Chinese food and liquor store. There were ghosts in that place, a place as old as illinois itself, and they were angry with the living for having that which they no longer could possess. It was DEALT with. Sure it seemed like daffodils and cherry wine at the time and as perception is reality it was fine. It was normal. And that is how it was and shall be.

That just reminded me of an odd night where a bottle of Yukon Jack whiskey seemed like a good idea. But not for long.
<shudder>

You might need an MRI.

The phone realization was a pretty pitiful moment. The laughter on other end of the line was painful, the wife’s look of “wtf, I married this?” Brought great shame. I’m sure I’ll be looking for my keys sometime soon when they are in my hand already. It’s a family affliction, like male pattern baldness, conflict avoidance, over consumption of alcohol and being Cubs fans. All of these generational curses.

It reminds me of that joke Carl Reiner thinks is funny, but it really isn't that good, and then he tells you it and you have to play along and then laugh at it because it is Cart Reiner, but you feel like meh.

It was past midnight and the cops had already left but everyone was still buzzed or sleeping on the stairwells or had put down their beers in places that will leave you confused and the delightful misdirection played upon the agents of law enforcement was being retold in hushed tones and with great enthusiasm by the involved parties while others who had missed the action listened intently with widening eyes and open mouths. While the day had been won by the underdogs the LEOs had vowed solemnly to avenge their losses with a keenness that can only be described as horrifying by anyone not on the side of law and order. Yes... they would have their day. Yes, revenge would be had, and the legality of their tactics would indeed be questionable next time. Had evidence not been readily available it would be manufactured, it would be there whether or not it was there. They would not be deterred from claiming their harvest of criminals; we all knew it, we knew we would have to use an abundance of caution, we knew we were to be the prey and they, the sworn agents of peace and law and order were to be the predators, roles reversed out of sheer animosity and embarrassment. We would overcome, but a battle was on the horizon.

It was almost time. The last glowing limb of the sun had settled below the waters to the west 10 minutes ago, venus glowed with increasing intensity above and to the left of the last vestiges of sunlight peering over the horizon. He looked at his partner and smiled to himself. She was a hunter, a killer whose last scrap of remorse had died years ago, and she glared below with determination and... maybe regret? Yes, he thought... regret. For what she had to do or for the fact this was nearly over he was unsure.
Their target lay 3000 meters further up the beach. High winds tonight made their penultimate target a necessity. The two guards below had been relieved a hour ago and their relief was not scheduled for another 3 hours.
15 meters straight down the bluff. 15 meters of silent descent.
Another glance over at her showed that she did not have any of the worry he did that they'd be able to pull this off. Her Browning Hi Power was at her hip, her favorite piece since seeing "Raiders of the Lost Ark" as an 8 year old girl with her daddy in the theater, but with a bit of luck and skill, there would be no call for its use tonight. This needed to be a silent kill.
Luck was with them tonight. These guard had grown complacent, satisfied to swivel their heads north and south along the coastline but so far, not once looking up. "Let's hope neither of these guys is an astronomy buff" he thought to himself as he readied his paracord in his lanyard and stepped to the edge of the cliff in unison with her. The began their drop.
They could hear the men chatting idly during their 5 minute journey. The game the night before. One of them lost $1,200 on the last minute field goal. He wouldn't need to worry about making his mortgage payment after all, he thought to himself. It would no longer be a concern.
Hovering inches above his target she gave him a sign, and together they grabbed the chins of their marks and simultaneously slid their Ka-Bars into the carotid arteries of their quarry. Neither made more than a gurgling sound, but his... his looked into his eyes with a shocked look of disbelief, this couldn't be happening to him could it?
They dropped their kills and swiveled upright and got their boots on the ground. Not a word had been spoken between them but they had told an entire story amongst themselves with their eyes. A cocked eyebrow up the coast from her, a fast nod from him. They were almost there.
The plan was simple. Trent was known to go on the veranda at first dark and smoke his cigar with his Glenlivit. They would close to 100 meters. He was to confirm his identity as he illuminated his face with his Zippo lighting his cigar. He was to be alone tonight but verifying their target was of the upmost importance. She would put her bullet right into the ruddy red glow of his cigar as he took a draw.
High tide several hours earlier had wet the sand and made the walk take a few minutes longer than they had planned. He saw the dim crack of light from inside as Trent made his way out on the porch when they were still 50 meters out from their chosen point, this distance would have to do. They dropped prone. He got his spotter scope and she slowly pulled back the bolt on her rifle and settled it into position. He could hear, or maybe it was just in his mind mn the distinctive snick of the lighter as it opened. Orange light positively illuminated his face. When he glanced to his left, she was already looking at him. He nodded.
Focusing her attention on the scope, both eyes open, judging the wind and making one minor windage adjustment on her Leupold, the crosshairs settled on the glow of the cigar before her. Up to his mouth, a brightening, down to his waistline.... a moment passing, up to his mouth, a brightening.... she began timing her breathing. A slow inhale a moment before she anticipated the ascension of the glow, and as it settled to its zenith, she was already exhaling, 4 and a half pounds of pressure on the trigger, she finished her breath and squeezed.
