You were more entertaining when you were high and accusing the board of hacking your PC.

i dont know what happened here but calm down ppl. let's stick to cooking.

French Onion Soup - that will be #1 on my list! thank you. I forgot how good a great French onion soup tastes. I'll look in youtube and go to the library tomorrow to come up w/ a recipie.

Italian food - use to love it, but now my stomach can't do it. Just too acidey. I do like a lot of italian food though like alfredro and such. I may do something on the non tomato side.

thanks for the hints. dont need to fight over this.

Seen a lot of youtube videos on cooking. Always liked cooking. Always liked dealing w/ meat. Thought many times throughout my life I should have been a butcher.

Do you guys cook for a hobby? what is a good way to start? i mean i know mac and cheese or spaghetti but I'd like to get into some ethnic style cooking. Not bland American.

You gotta find a girlfriend...

Sometimes my onions don't caramelize. I've always had trouble with them.

The word "retarded" was the politically correct word to call the mentally challenged decades ago. It's a perfectly fine word. Liberals just keep moving the goal posts with all this shit. Be a man and stop getting offended by words.

Anyways, Hawaii, youtube some Gordon Ramsay videos. He's actually a really good and passionate teacher. That's how I got into cooking more complex stuff.

I love to cook. Growing up exposed to all those great Italian cooks in my family was priceless. Like any talented craft or skill, my advice is to view and experience a myriad of different styles, personalities and techniques. Then, take a little away from each and form your own style.

I was a cook, butcher, baker and cake decorator while I was in the Navy. It was a terrific experience and I learned a lot in 9 years. I was trained by an expert culinary school baking expert who got into legal trouble and was told by the judge, enlist or go to jail. He was a Boston born and bred drunk who was Teddy Roosevelt's doppelganger.

HawaiiYou, start simple. Get a prepackaged meal with all the courses and follow the directions. Cooking is 90% following directions - period. Learn how to bake. As stated above, baking is precise and time, measurements and ingredients are paramount. You would be surprised how many times novice bakers switch up and or confuse baking soda and baking powder.

Good luck!

We've been through a few old Navy ships (Midway, Wisconsin, etc). I am always telling my son when we go through the galleys...THIS IS THE JOB FOR YOU! making pancakes & ice cream, etc. You get to be in the military and not get killed (unless the whole ship goes down).

there are generally local culinary classes in most metropolitan areas. take a few classes to learn basic crap like spice blends, mirepoix, stocks, sauces and stuff like that. how to cut vegetables, cook meats, etc. or just youtube it.

Just putting this out there, we talk about the current state of this board, what people are getting tired of..there was no reason for that sphincter clown Reason to derail this thread multiple times last night. He isn't even a regular, just a joker that shows up every few months or so. IMO, that needs to be cracked down on.

For sure, Hatch. It is a great experience. How do you like those big steam jacketed kettles in the galleys? They look like big round hot tubs and we would use oar looking utensils to stir the chili, soups, macaroni, etc.while cooking.

Wrong again, Bob. Reason didn't derail it. He posted one questionable word that others jumped on. That is what derailed the thread. Hockey Gay is somewhat correct. Saying that somebody who actually has a disability is mentally retarded/challenged isn't terrible. Using 'R" as an insult is not cool, and one post simply stating that is all it would have taken to get the point across. Instead that was dragged out for MANY pages. This happens often at CFMB, and I know I've done it before.

Besides, 99% of Hawaii's threads are terrible and Reason's overall point wasn't wrong. HY is either an act, or there are some serious issues going on.

I didn't say this was. I said 99% of the threads he starts are shit. Like 99% of the posts you make are useless. There is always that outlier. Even a broken watch is correct twice a day.

So here, he created a reasonable thread, and 1 post it was derailed by the idiot. Not sure what you are seeing.
