I think they could have got a OL just like this guy in the 2nd round. But I guess since they are down 2 ol, the choice was easy, but I still liked Mendenhall.

I don't think the Williams pick is any different than the Otah or Albert picks were, really, now that I think about it. It all depends upon who performs, and we don't know who that will be yet. One advantage is that this is a smart player who has played all over the line, so he can start at RT next year then move to LT in 2009. Tait can still perform at LT for one more year. Their guards still suck though.

Pick 16- ARI- Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie

Sure, why not? Arizona has one of the best defenders in the legue you've never heard about in Adrian Wilson, but they need help on the outside. I just am not really sure that Cromartie is help. I said earlier that I think Chris Long would be a top-5 pick even if his last name wasn't "Long"; I don't think Cromartie would be a first round pick if his last name was not "Cromartie".

Poor Rashard Mendenhall. he's probably going to be a Lion now, and they traded down, so they'll pay him less.

Good job ESPN, missing the 17th pick live.

Pick 17- DET (from KC) Gosder Cherilus

Ha! Matt Millen sucks! You guys are angry at Angelo? Angelo maybe reached for an OT who was an undeniable 1st round talent. Millen just traded down two spots to get a guy who would have been there in the second round, and if not him, someone like Sam Baker. And Otah is still there! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I'm watching the NFL Network coverage and I like it. Maybe it's because Boomer isn't there.

As for the Lions WTF was that pick?

Houston trades with Baltimore, who certainly has the picks after the JAX trade to move up. Mendenhall keeps a-sliding.

Rashard will get drafted in the first round....just a matter of when.

Pick 18- BAL (from HOU)- Joe Flacco

Let's compare Joe Flacco and Kyle Boller. One is a guy with a rocket for an arm, a guy who never really faced difficult competition but can throw the ball 80 yards downfield. He doesn't have much accuracy or mobility, and he skyrocketed up draft boards in the months after the season.

The other guy is Joe Flacco.

Flacco was a reach. I don't understand the urgency to take him in that spot unless you think he won't be around til your second rounder.

I'm starting to lean towards the "fuck RB, fuck QB, draft Brohm if he's there) opinion for the 2nd round.

Pick 19- CAR (from PHI)- Jeff Otah

Lots of trading; this draft is Jack McKean's dream! I still don't know what Houston got to trade with Baltimore, but I imagine the eagles got a lot for their move.

The Eagles fans are booing a draft pick that they didn't make. Who says stereotypes are always false.

The last of the big-time OTs are gone, and now the Stewart pick makes more sense. Still, Carolina probably just gave up a whole lot, and their first day is probably done.

I think it's time to forbid Jets and Eagles fans from attending the draft. Just watching the replays, every single pick in the top-5 was booed. Keep in mind that neither the Jets nor the Eagles had a top-5 pick. Way to stay classy, blowhards.

TB- Pick 20- Aqib Talib

I was all ready to talk about how TB needs weapons on offense, how Jeff Garcia isn't eternal and you need to prepare for the future. So of course they went and drafted defense.

Still, in defense of the Bucs, the cornerback play last season wasn't a strong point for the team, who (like the Bears) play a lot more man coverage than their Cover-2 reputation would lead you to believe. Most frustrating is that Talib has a "q" in his name which is not followed by a "u", which leads me to question his ability to transition to the NFL.

Never mind!

Pick 21- ATL- Sam Baker

I think Sam Baker would have been there later. I could have justified the reach for Brohm. Not for Baker.

Who does Atlanta have at LT? Baker is a right tackle in my book.

Jerry Jones makes Hogs happy that he kept it in the family by taking Jones. Julius Jones, time to get your locker empty. (Maybe the Bears make a call?)

Am I missing something with Pitt taking Mendenhall?

Steelers took the best available player. They have Parker who's more or less a small back and the best Steeler teams of late have a strong 1/2 punch which they lacked last year. The Steelers had more needs but couldn't pass on the talent. Their biggest needs were WR, OL (guard mostly), DL and CB. They could have grabbed Jenkins here but went with the best available.

I think thats overkill in terms of a one two punch. Mendenhall is going to want a good amount of money. Trade?

He already left in the offseason to the Seahawks.
