Kind of thought the Bears would go RB as there was a run on all the good WR talent. Forte is a nice player, nice size.

We are completely fucked at WR now though.

BD hit that pick dead on. Lots of names at WR, not much in terms of upside IMO. Sweed, Doucet and Jackson are all still on the board, but a lot of WRs have gone ahead of them.

Cedric Benson may not make this team.

If he wanted to go OT+RB in the first two rounds, he could pick Mendenhall in 1st and still had a shot at Williams at 44th overall.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Are you fucking kidding me?!?!?

You want to know why this team has only been in two Superbowls, only won one of them, and pissed away a near CERTAIN dynasty after winning that first one?

This franchise will NEVER win another Superbowl as long as Angelo and the McCaskey family is involved. This is an EMBARRASSMENT.

I dont think Williams would be there at 44, but they could have gotten a decent tackle there.

How do you not take one of those quarterbacks?!?

And if you wanted an RB all along, take Mendenhall and get the linemen lower! Offensive linemen grow on trees in this league!

This is Stan Thomas and Brad Muster all over again. I'm telling you.

This franchise is an embarrassment

Can you name me a recent OT that made the Pro bowl and wasn't drafted in the first round?

OT is also one of the toughest (and priciest) positions to fill in free agency. Do your homework, junior!!!

Just off the top of my head....

Stan Thomas=1st Round
Tony Mandarich=1st Round
Tony Boselli=1st Round

Jay Hilgenberg=UNDRAFTED

Mark Bortz=8th Round

Tom Thayer=4th Round

Olin Kreutz=3rd Round

Mark Schlereth= 10th Round

Russ Grimm= 3rd Round

...Again, that's just off the top of my head.

You do YOUR homework, junior.

Only idiotic front offices like the current Bears front office can't find offensive linemen lower in the draft and free agency.

I agree. No. The talent for O lineman at #44 sucked. A lot of good backs have come from the 2nd round in past NFL drafts. More than good O lineman.

I like what they did.

Forte and Benson will battle in training camp. Forte will win the job. Bears won't cut Benson. Why would they? You need 2 backs. Benson will be motivated now. I think this is the last year of Benson's deal. Maybe he has 2 years.

I'm pleased with what the Bears did.

I think I heard Kiper say Forte runs a 4.4/40. Pretty good.

4.46 at 6'2" 222lbs

Both Felix Jones and Stewart were slower.

Might as well not turn this thread into a pissing contest.

I'll remind all of you of this when Lovie Smith and Jerry Angelo are both fired.

I love the analysis on NFL.com re:Forte

NFL.com wrote:
strengths:His effort and drive is good taking the ball up the middle and also demonstrates the second gear to elude along the perimeter...

negatives:Lacks the sudden burst to hit the corner, but builds his acceleration nicely, using his power rather than a second gear to break long runs

In summary, I like that he has a second gear to go around the perimeter, but I also wish he had a second gear to break long runs. :?

I liked Williams over Albert, Clady and Otah. I didn't think he would be there at 14. The Bears got the guy they wanted.

I also really like Forte. He would have likely went first round it it were not for his knee.

Definitely surprised Ray Rice went this round.

The Bears need to get things done next round. Huge round for us.

I want QB Josh Johnson from San Diego. I think he has a lot of upside.
I heard him on Mully and Hanley and he said the Bears had talked to him.
I think he is going to be a star in the league. He can do it all run, throw and already knows the west coast offense.
Make it happen Jerry.

That sound you hear to the North is the dagger being jammed directly into Aaron Rodgers's heart. What do you get for three years of sitting on the bench behind Brett Farve? Meet the future, son, and it doesn't involve you!

I think its almost a guarantee they take him if he is there, from the way he was talking.

The scuttlebutt on ESPN after the forte pick was that the Bears were silly for not taking Brohm with the 44th pick. I'd have taken Brohm, but I see the logic. Forte and Rice were really the only quality RBs left on the board; after that, you're left with a whole bunch of crap. Henne and Brohm may have been a cut above the rest, but then again, maybe not. If they're locked into this Johnson kid, then you're not taking him 2nd round. Andre Woodson is still out there too.

I'm a bit surprised they didn't go with WR in the second. None of these WRs are standouts though, and it seems like guys 6-10 on Kiper's board went before guys 1-5. Kinda weird.

Oh, btw, moment of silence for Mike Hart. Maybe Miami can draft him in the third round so they can complete the Wolverine trifecta. If that happens, Bill Parcells better hope that Appalachian State isn't on the schedule.

They'll be a Brohm like player in next years 2nd round. There is always those type of guys in the 2nd round.

He could be good. Greater chance that he sucks.

Guys like Forte - there is a greater likelihood that they are at least decent. Chance to be good.

I'm alone here I know. But if this tackle and RB are good I think Rex will have a good year and the Bears will give him a long term deal.

I still like Rex. Don't comment. I don't want this to become a Rex thread. Bring up an old one for that talk. I know how most of you feel. Me and Nas are the only ones that still like Rex.

I think they were hoping that somehow Dexter Jackson slipped to 70, or maybe a trade up a bit.

We absolutely need to address WR with 70 or 90 now though.

Still need a WR, DT, LB, QB and a guard.

I wouldn't bet on Rex being good, but I still hold out hope. I envision scenarios in which he could be good. But like you I don't want to debate that here.

I still like Rex, too. As long as he has some protection, he can have a good year. I think Williams can provide that. ANd Tait moving to right tackle is an instant upgrade for the O-line.
I still hope Jerry gets Johnson in the third. That will give the Bear two Qb's fighting for the starting job and one to groom to be the eventual starter.

man, I thought they were going to round 3 because of the shortened time. I really want to see what the bears are going to do.

I think Williams will start at RT next year, then either move halfway through or in 2009. Starting at LT in a division with Kampman and Allen is a tough task, and the opening day matchup is Indy. By all accounts he's an extremely intelligent player who can handle either end. Tait is at least an average LT, which is fine.

This team still needs guard help. That must mean that they have at least some confidence in Beekman.
