Anyone happen to see this new horror movie?

I read some superlative reviews and wonder if it lives up to the hype.

I saw it last Friday, and no, it doesn't live up to the hype.
It was a good movie, but it was being promoted as being this genuinely terrifying Exorcist type movie that had people fainting or walking out of the theater. It was definitely creepy, but it most certainly wasn't a horror movie.
I'm no expert, and I don't usually even like horror, but I slept just fine that night.
It was actually pretty funny in certain scenes.
Toni Collette was really good, and the guy who played the son was good.
I won;t spoil anything about the odd looking girl in the commercials...

probably going to have to get a torrent from a friend. it wasn't playing near me, and didn't have the time to venture out to see it.

really looking forward to it though.

I'm just worried it's gonna suck like The Witch did despite all the critics telling me how awesome it was. I'll rent it on demand as soon as it's available but I'm definitely nervous about it because I want it to live up to the hype.

Watched this tonight. I don't agree with SD that this isn't a horror film. it's one of the most unsettling movies i've watched in a while. not just because of any kind of supernatural thing, which there is a lot of in the film, but just because of the lineage and continuation of past blemishes that keep up in a family tree and can't be erased.

it has a few jump scares, a few intense "quiet" moments where you're waiting for a big mouth-cupping moment. and those do come, to a degree. in some ways it is an old-fashioned horror flick that will entertain.

in other words, it isn't the pretentious mess that "the witch" is. it does have more to it and it makes more sense.

i felt very uneasy watching a lot of it, and the ending reminded me a bit of "the wicker man" or "rosemary's baby". it's like getting splashed with cold water but the effect isn't so much because of surprise as much as it is...just unsettling.

overall, really enjoyed it thoroughly.

:D :D :D out of :D :D :D :D

This movie is outstanding.

Great old school type horror film.

Just fucking creepy.

Toni Collette not being nominated for an Oscar is further evidence the entire awards ceremony is a joke.

I called the shadiness of the “friend” lady right away.

I really enjoyed the movie but I'm suspending a lot of disbelief to achieve that enjoyment level.

-Nudity- nobody wants to see naked old people including some all powerful god of hell. You think he was jumping for joy looking around the room and seeing this basement dwelling group he has assembled as worshippers? Even the god seemed to be looking around in disgust. Why did the women all have loin cloths and the dudes were all letting the sausage hang?

-you guys are smart. walk me through the logic of needing to kill the younger daughter in order for the legacy to jump back to the older son. That seems ass backwards, especially in terms of inherited legacy.

-I don't think that girl is mentally handicapped in real life. That has to be the best portrayal of someone like that since Leo DiCaprio. They chose her for the role for a reason. I cannot figure out that reason. There was nothing particular about needing a handicapped person in that role. The only thing I can think is that her appearance was an outward indication of the evil inheritance, just as the son's birth mark was.

-kind of a waste of Gabriel Byrne. I was waiting for him to have some important action. That role could have been played by just about any actor.

-the cult seemed ridiculous and completely non menacing. Even the pictures of them in the mom's scrap book looked like people gathered on some elder cruise.

That girl has some sort of medical condition right? I tried looking online but its all articles about her awesome autism performance.

To quote Mr. Plinkett "What's wrong with your face!?"

I will give the film credit for graphic child violence. That is such a taboo. Her head popped right off!

Definitely a waste of Gabriel Byrne. Shout out to Millers Crossing

Finally saw this. With all the talk about it, I thought it would traumatize me (like The Exorcist). It didn't, but still creepy as hell.

Something was missing, though. Maybe a little more of the grandmother's handiwork? Maybe a different ending? Unsettling, though.
