Part of it is what Tad and CH said, but its also social media. Not all that long ago, you had to listen to sportsradio if you wanted to learn things about your favorite team or athlete. Now you can pull up Twitter, Facebook, or any other number of websites and find their quotes and stats in a matter of seconds.

If I'm incorrect can you name me the top 3 moments from MJH? As a huge fan of the show, I can only really come up with times Mac got suspended, and those weren't nearly as laugh out loud funny as many clips available on youtube from B&B.

No particular order...

Had a job last year that didn't allow time to listen AND be efficient. I'm a habit forming person, once I start (or stop) doing something, it usually forms. After a while, I found myself not really missing the sports talk. Anything that is breaking news-wise I can find out on Twitter.


Got more into podcasts (specifically The Breakfast Club, Everyday Struggle before Joe Budden left, etc).


Take public trans to work instead of driving. Yeah I know, Tune in App and all, but drains the hell out of phone.


Moved in with the girl, so no more listening to M&H as I get ready for work in the morning. Now it's news or BET or TV One.


Not a fan of all the changes (which explains why I didn't miss it), although I do like Parkins. I think once Terry left for good, even Matty as well, and now Goff, a big chunk of the soul of The Score that I knew it was gone, and it just doesn't seem the same. I tried listening to Goff and Bernstein for a few months in the winter, and I just didn't like it. I liked both of them, but together as a duo just did not get me to the point of wanting or needing to listen every day.

I'm too lazy to go look, and/or Bag Head purged it, but The Brand came on here to whine about it afterward, and was met with an absolute pounding.

I think the Bears being largely irrelevant for the last 6 years has taken a toll as as well. As soon as the Bears are interesting, people will flock back to listen as sports radio is driven by football

I think I stopped listening because:

Groundhog Day: It's been going since the early '90's and it just sounds like the same shit over & over & over.

The Mike North factor: I don't care what anyone says,Mike was entertaining and you never knew what was going to fly out of his mouth next.


Bernstein is as annoying as Hell. He should have been launched and have Hanley take his gig. They could have moved Moon Mullin/Doug Glanville to mornings to work with the red faced Mully.

My schedule is different.

It's pretty much been outlined above: SJW, commercials, vanilla lightweight hosts like McDoink, team ass-kissing that the Score would have mercilessly mocked for the first 15 years of its existence.

My four all-time favorite hosts are Boers, McNeil, Bernstein and (yeah, shut up) Grobstein. Of these four, Boers is retired, Mac is blatantly obviously only there for the paycheck unless it's football season or the Hawks are doing good, Bernstein irrevocably changed for the worse almost seven years ago and Grobber seems to be literally getting senile. And none of the younger guys at the station show potential of being as good as these guys were in their prime except MAYBE Parkins, and he needs work.

Also, I'm the 1 guy in 100000 for whom the Hawks have always been my #1 team, and the thinly veiled disdain for the Hawks, their fans and the sport of hockey by the entire station except Mac, Zawaski and Grobber has become increasingly hard for me to abide over time.

I agree about the commercials too. After the Cubs game last night I tuned in to the Cubs post game. Had to be after midnight central time.

It was like 5 or more minutes of commercials, then a update, then another 5 min of commercials, etc....

Do they really make money advertising after midnight?

I used to love the Score. B&B were my favorite. They always made me laugh at some point. Then Dan got "meaner." We all knew it was schtick, but it got a little too much. But then Dan turned all SJW(I am very liberal on social positions as well), but the time spent on the issues and basically saying FU to 1/2 the audience was a turnoff.

Could turn in from time to time and still have a laugh, but him and Goff were the end. Goff is a producer, he is not funny, not a good sports radio entertainer. Obviously it did not work.

Now with McDoink I have no interest at all. Right now Parkins/Mac have probably the greatest chance for success. All the other programming is garbage esp with Hanley going.

It's funny how this works. They're both talented hosts, but together, it was never right.
