Not totally sure, but here's part of it: "Schnatter had apologized earlier in the day after Forbes reported that he used the racial slur while participating in a role-playing exercise designed to prevent public relations crises."

Afterwards, I think he also said, "But I thought we were still under the trust tree?"

He was apparently on a conference call with some PR firm that was trying to help him cover his ass for the "my company is losing money because the NFL is letting players kneel" or some such shit. Offended a bunch of people on the call, and the PR firm dropped Papa John's as a client right after that.

That is the way I read the story. As far as the trust tree thing that I did not read he must have felt they were supposed to be able to talk openly without repercussion. As I don't give a crap about the guy it is fine his feelings came out. I am wondering a bit if it is normal for agencies you hire for such things normally leak this stuff.
