Who does Terry despise with the Bears?

the mcclaskey family.... and basically bears brass. IIRC he said that there's evil people who work for the team (and damaneel agreed with him)

Did George just spill the beans on Terry doing a podcast?

When talking about interviewing him for the book tour, George said after he told Terry that he should be doing sports talk again, Terry said "I might do this once a week".

TB Diddler's Sports Thoughts on Podcast One, maybe?

legendary hairy (by cracky) drop/bumper to go to commercial. they should just replay shows from the 90s to move the meters, eh? =P

Sounds like it.

And we got a replay of the greatest moment in Score history, too!

i think during the-segment-formerly-known-as-tranny terry mentioned doing something in the future but emphasized it's not radio, so a podcast would make sense. i wonder who he would get with him cuz i couldn't see a terry solo podcast.... maybe rotating drivers/show-long-guests?

regardless, being able to tell stories longform would be fun with this medium. tho now that the book's out i wonder if he's exhausted his supply of "the good ones" and we'd be left with a few swear words and a lot of nostalgia...

they used the closing time song for the outro... wasn't that the song they used for the saloon on AM 1000? or did HFC use that song too?

The main thing for me is that Terry sounded healthy. Hopefully he can have many years of good health as a crotchety old Floridian.

I can't see Terry doing a podcast about current sports, as then he'd have to watch them.

I did like Terry's reaction to Lawrence's guest Sierra Santos. Inappropriate but not actionable.

And I had forgotten that it was part of an old commercial. It's too bad that they couldn't play an old one a couple of times. I'd love to hear the old commercials for a Luigi's of Hong Kong.

Having Terry back, Parkins gone, and listening to McDoink recede into the background in transition even more than he already does really showed that the Score is not an institution that is bigger than its talent. "The Score" is specifically the work of Terry Boers, Dan McNeil, Dan Bernstein, Mike North, and a few others (even Goff). Plug-and-play guys like Parkins and McKnight will never really belong, and that's a problem, because Terry is gone, Mac can't do this forever, and Senor has been mentally checked out of his job for years. People call sports radio and wrestling "a soap opera for men," which I get on some level, but soap operas and wrestling can withstand very high levels of churn in their casts. I really wonder how the Score will endure moving past the people who established the Score. Exiling Jason may have been a really bad idea after all, because whatever his faults, and whatever the faults of being "a Score guy" are, he was most definitely one of those.

Getting him away from Bernstein might have been the only way to salvage Goff's career. Believing that his platform was for talking down to people to enact "social change" (whatever the fuck that means) is basically the opposite of what made the station. It was fans talking to fans. The HFC slightly touched on the decline of the Score today as regulars do not call in as much any more to banter with the hosts.

What does being a "Score guy" really mean anyway? Parkins grew up listening to the station. He lists Mac as his idol, and was his intern. That's pretty Score. It's probably about being self-aware enough to not think you are a star or doing something more that bull shitting with people as they drive to work. That was the undoing of North and Goff. Parkins has a lot of both in him. If there is a school shooting, well of course he needs to cover that during his sports radio shift because if anyone can put shootings into perspective it's this gambling obsessed radio host.

For better or worse, the Score does have a come-up-through-the-mailroom culture. That's good in the sense that it allows you to develop a familiarity with personalities in smaller roles and then want to hear more from them. It's bad in the sense that it makes guys who hit their ceilings think they're entitled to more by dint of tenure alone.

Some of the "Score guys" were/are bad at radio. Parkins while not as much of a Score guy is actually good at radio. He will be just fine.

Seems like the 1st generation was people that had for better or worse personalities, presence, and opinions. This second generations seems like a bunch of socially awkward dorks that want to have the impact of the people they loved listening to without having the presence of them. They want to impress the hosts but have little idea on being their own interesting person to make that impression on the audience as a host.

When it started the stars were North- High School education.

Jiggetts- Harvard degree but played a meatball ex-jock and sidekick to North.

Mac- almost a degree from Ball State.

Terry- NIU by way of community college.

They were guys at a start-up who had no idea what it would become. so they took risks and did not take an air of superiority over callers because they literally were the same as the callers. Going to be tough to replicate that. The professionalization of the Score is similar to analytics in baseball its seems to have taken away a lot of the fun. Players are just tools that smart GMs unfortunately have to deal with. Do we really have to take calls?

Parkins tries to compensate with a lot of gambling talk, but when you are a New Tier grade who married well it's not much of a risk.

Yeah just because you started out in the mail room doesn't mean you should advance beyond it.

Laurence got away from Bernstein and quietly became one of the better hosts at the station. No reason to believe Goff wouldn't have benefited as well.

It must burn Sam Fels up that he's not on the station.

Parkins is a million times more talented than McKnight and I think has shown he belongs.

He was Terry's designated substitute for a long time before it became a Rozner/Rosenbloom/Goff rotation, and we all know Terry took his time off. "Leery" really came into his own as an unctuous creep when he'd sit in with Dan. Once he figured out that professing his love for Dan Bernstein would not make him the heir to the afternoon show, he got better.

I don't think Goff is as hard working or as smart as Laurence. Say what you will about Larry, but he's done a lot of different jobs in town. Never said Score or bust. Goff failed up into the afternoon slot. It seems like more more you hear from him the less interesting he becomes. To give him the benefit of the doubt maybe it's because he was trying to play junior Bernstein instead of being himself.

He much prefers that 15 minute lead-in to the Cubs and Illini games; it gives him time to mentor.
