This is the epitome (imo) of self policing. No one is being tasked to be a George Zimmerman, but rather just attack other's bad (iyo) ideas with better ideas. When continued racism or threats are made, then it should be up to the wisemen to decide what to do with the culprit. Police catch the criminals, courts (and juries) decide what to do. It is their board, they can do as they please with it. If you believe that they are being hypocritical, you're not going to convince them otherwise. It might be time for some to realize there isn't any appeals process past the owners of this board.

Seriously, I think this needs to be said in light of certain things JLN and Chus wanted to happen in separate situations. It should be obvious to everyone that we don't take a heavy-handed approach in moderating this board. I would think that after all the complaints about bigfan that would be appreciated.

The problem with heavy moderation is that it becomes a matter of choices. The three of us have discussed this extensively. For example, Nas was never extremely disturbed by racist posts. (He obviously knows there are racists in the world and some post on message boards.) What pissed him off was when things that weren't as offensive were deleted while that other shit was left to stand. Those are editorial decisions. And by removing one and not the other you are giving tacit approval to the one that remains.

We've clearly made the decision to allow you guys to police the forum yourselves for the most part. There have been very few things that we have removed. JLN, we aren't giving tacit approval to doxxing. Chus, we don't approve of people attacking family members. We simply aren't interventionist gods.

Has there been any doxxing since the incident? No? Well, I guess our approach was successful then. We took a similar approach with the two guys in question and they refused to cease their behavior.
