Soviet era Russians don't mind a strong US. It ensures their relevance.

What they want is a weaker Europe. Readjust your chart reflecting that knowledge.

But my TV says otherwise. They say Trump and Putin want to destroy America.

Adjust your TV's contrast. Maybe dial down the audio a wee bit.

Trump correctly pointed out that RUSSIA! is no good for EU and especially Germany but Your TV missed that?

LOL. Just in...

"So many people at the higher ends of intelligence loved my press conference performance in Helsinki," Trump tweeted Wednesday morning.
He continued, "Putin and I discussed many important subjects at our earlier meeting. We got along well which truly bothered many haters who wanted to see a boxing match. Big results will come!"

More LOL:

Same presser-Trump trolls anti USA reporters by doubling down. "I don't know", he says to Q about ongoing RUSSIA! meddling.

Is Keith Olbermann still around? Has someone actually let this bozo on the air in any capacity? He kind of reminds me of Jim Carey in looks and stupidity. Does Dan Patrick still defend him on his program? Anyone know?

C'mon, eventually it comes down to the person in the booth and a feeling they get from a candidate. I really think it's a plot by Democrats to control the narrative for 4 years comparable to Obama's birth certificate BS. Our country is the one that suffers in the end.

You ask what the Russkies did - they used “fake news” (note - not what Trump and Jorr call fake news, but the real meaning of the term) via social media to specifically target voters in swing states with seemingly legit stories designed to make those who might not be already decided to distrust Clinton to the point that Trump seemed like a better alternative. Don’t think that people can be that easily influenced? As of December 2017, 51% of Republicans believed Obama was born in Kenya.

Not to mention the millions funneled to the NRA for political campaigning by Russian agents like the one in jail awaiting trial now, or the criminal conspiracy between Cambridge Analytica, the 12 indicted Russian military agents and Wikileaks.

Or just see what Gates, Flynn and Papadopoulos testify to at Jared and Donnie Dumbass Jr's trials.

And the money laundering, oh the money laundering...

Well they for sure broke into private US servers to gather intel which they likely gave to the Trump campaign. Otherwise they created thousands of social media accounts to spread misinformation. I mean, that's what we know so far. Mueller likely has many more details but he aint talking.

So how is this different than the literally hundreds of political commercials Americans get every election year with wild accusations and half truths about candidates? It's all lies and bullshit, the question is who's slinging it.

Everyone with a brain understands that political commercials are BS. The difference is that “fake news” is presented as real news. MANY don’t realize that it is propaganda and thus it is taken as fact. That’s a significant difference. These “factual stories” were targeted to specific key demos and then passed around exponentially, thus making them more effective than the usual TV election blather whose source is obvious and easily dismissed.

Is Chris Cuomo coming on television every night insisting that "the election was hacked" fake news?

I didn’t say it was hacked. I said what Chris Cuomo said (dont watch him but I’ll assume you are correct) wasn’t fake news. Again, the term is not about incorrect or biased opinions. If it helps, Hannity is also not fake news.

So it wasn't hacked, but Chris Cuomo is on TV as an anchor man saying it was and that isn't fake news. Okay. Got it.

Do I also need to explain what an anchor man is? Maybe I’ve given you too much credit. And again, you clearly still don’t know what “fake news” refers to.

You don't get to declare what "fake news" is. Fake is a word with a meaning. So is news. If a guy is on a News Network saying that something occurred that didn't that's fake news whether it meets the narrow definition you want to use or not.

As I said before - Hannity is not fake news - despite the fact that he is on a news network. The term “fake news” is not meant to be parsed as individual words. Apparently you are having trouble with that. I didn’t make up or declare what the definition of the term is, I just understand it.

And I'm gonna disagree with you there too. Although I'm not sure Hannity ever calls himself a journalist and tries to act as if he's an anchor while giving opinion the way some others do. But when he's promoting a phony story like Pizzagate or Seth Rich, that's fake news.

And who made up the term "fake news"? The first I remember hearing it was Hillary Clinton. Then Trump took it and turned it around on her. I understand very well all the ways the term has been used. Apparently you don't. Either that or you just like the idea that "the election was hacked" is floating around out there and being given credence by news organizations. My guess is it's the latter.

If you can find a post in which I say the election was hacked then I’ll concede the point. You may understand the ways the phrase “fake news” has been used in the most recent and vocal manner (ie Trump), but that isn’t true to its origin. I explained it a few posts previously but if you choose to use Jorr’s dictionary to more broadly define the term than it was intended then we’re at a stalemate and I’m going to bed. Goodnight, we can continue tomorrow if you’d like.

Do we have a unified, codified definition for 'hacked' within the context of the 2016 election? Because if not, it's just an empty, idiotic phrase for people to hide behind that has no real meaning or value like 'fake news' or 'Frank's baseball thoughts'.

I'd say that trump's own DNI chief, FBI director and (also) handpicked Secretary of State can illustrate the class. As can his first national security adviser.

Look, the wording "the election was hacked" is very specific and used for a specific political purpose- to suggest that the presidency was stolen from Hillary Clinton. If that did not happen, I don't see how you could call a news organization using such wording anything but "fake news".

Anyway, you'd rather make semantic argument about the definition of a vernacular phrase that has been used in several ways. For the record, here is the definition from Wikipedia:

Fake news is a type of yellow journalism or propaganda that consists of deliberate misinformation or hoaxes spread via traditional print and broadcast news media or online social media.[1][2] This false information is mainly distributed by social media, but is periodically circulated through mainstream media.[3] Fake news is written and published with the intent to mislead in order to damage an agency, entity, or person, and/or gain financially or politically,[4][5][6] often using sensationalist, dishonest, or outright fabricated headlines to increase readership, online sharing, and Internet click revenue. In the latter case, it is similar to sensational online "clickbait" headlines and relies on advertising revenue generated from this activity, regardless of the veracity of the published stories.[4] Intentionally misleading and deceptive fake news differs from obvious satire or parody, which is intended to amuse rather than mislead its audience.

I would suggest that the term "fake news" covers all of the things we've discussed.

To me, "hacked election" suggests actually going into a computer server and changing recorded votes, like what the Republicans were accused of doing with the Diebold voting machines in 2004, or those stories of New Trier kids hacking their grades. Obviously, these Russian agents tried to influence the election, but I don't believe Russians directly falsified any actual tabulations of votes. The mainstream media, an adjunct of the Democratic Party, wants us to believe the truth is closer to that than simply Hillary Clinton and her people booting the election on a purely strategic level.

Funny how their is video and audio of Rod Rosenstein saying they did not and people just ignore it.

What Russia did though is still shitty. And our county has done far worse for years.

So you would agree that when a news organization repeatedly uses the term "hacked election" it is knowingly doing so to push a particular narrative and could fairly be called "fake news"? Do you think that there are many people out there who are playing Clash of Clans or scrolling Facebook with CNN on in the background who constantly hear the term "hacked election" and believe that somehow Russians changed votes to make Donald Trump president?

And I know Zippy wanted to argue with me about whether self-proclaimed "journalist" Chris Cuomo is an anchorman (This isn't a partisan issue for me either. Tucker Carlson is a pseudo-anchor as well.), but the real point is the blurring between opinion and news. Like that NYT opinion piece that jbi11s linked above which acts and reads like news to someone who isn't a news junkie.

Also, the article contains this line: "Officers of the Russian intelligence agency formerly known as the G.R.U. had plotted with groups like WikiLeaks on how to release the email stash." That's something I absolutely do not believe to be true. Assange has repeatedly stated it is not and his credibility is far greater than that of the New York Times. U.S. intelligence hates Wikileaks, but Wikileaks is the definition of a proper news organization. You may take issue with their methods but they have never once promoted a lie.

Sometimes you can be so reasonable.

Funny how their is video and audio of Rod Rosenstein saying they did not and people just ignore it.

What Russia did though is still shitty. And our county has done far worse for years.

You mean we do not live in a fairyland where all countries follow some sort of lawful code and never do things to their own benefit?

To make another rhetorical clarification, I've always taken "fake news" to mean completely fictitious stories by disreputable or non-existent agencies. Propaganda from mainstream outlets can't really be fake news, as much as it sucks. CNN calling it a "hacked election" is reporting in bad faith, while www.abcne.ws reporting "Hillary Clinton Eats Aborted Fetus To Own The Christians" would be fake news.
