They had the original Karate Kid on tv night. Made me miss the days when there were good movies. Pat Morita made the film.

The Cobra Kai series is nothing but a shitfest in comparison.

I think the above comment is the first thing negative I have read about Cobra Kai anywhere.

Gotta consider the source.

Rube is an idiot who has bad opinions on everything. So him being anti it is basically a 5 star review in favor of it

The whole thing is pretty stupid. What's worse is that it destroys the legacy of the first, which was excellent.

Anyone who grew up in the 80s and saw this film I am sure feels similarly. I was thirteen when it came out.

Even my wife loved it and it's hard to get her to watch any "action" show.

Here are the actors who were nominated for Best Supporting Actor in 1984.

Haing S. Ngor – The Killing Fields as Dith Prandouble-dagger
Adolph Caesar – A Soldier's Story as Sgt. Waters
John Malkovich – Places in the Heart as Mr Will
Pat Morita – The Karate Kid as Kesuke Miyagi
Ralph Richardson (posthumous nomination) – Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes as 6th Earl of Greystoke

The only one that anyone remembers from this list is Pat Morita, and yet the award went to a complete unknown at the top. Who ever talks about the Killing Fields? No one. What an injustice.

The story was more about finding out who this old Japanese man, Mr. Miyagi, was than telling the karate episodes of the Larusso character.

Absolutely the opposite. Rave reviews all over from us 30 something's who were kids at the time. You're on an Island with this.

If memory serves me, The Killing fields was a fantastic film. I've probably talked about both films equally since I've seen them, which is to say, not very much at all.

“The Killing Fields” is one of the best films of the 80’s. It was the first time I learned about Pol Pot. It’s excellent.

Also inspired a Method Man song 13 years after it's release

That's the problem then, that you're 30 something and not 40 something. To lump them together is an insult to 40 somethings.

We 40 somethings remember how great it was growing up in the 70s and early 80s. It was the age of innocence and imagination.

There's nothing imaginative or original that comes out of Hollywood now, as this series proves.

Public Service Announcement: The first two seasons of Cobra Kai are now available on Netflix, which purchased the show from YouTube and will stream the third season in 2021.

I have been re-watching some episodes over the past few days. What an entertaining show. The acting is surprisingly good and the repositioning of Johnny as a hero/anti-hero works both comically and dramatically. Cobra Kai never dies!

Just starting this. I know nothing about it so should be fun. First episode was just ok.

I'll be interested to get your take on this show.

Glad you survived the riots!

I ran thru highlights of both seasons yesterday. So good.

Hawk is a great character.

I really enjoyed the first season.

I keep forgetting about the second season. Maybe I'll fire that up tonight. I've been looking for a new show to watch.

I’m up to the season finale of season one. It’s easy to watch. Zabka is not much of an actor but he is believeable as a wet brained alcoholic. I like that the episodes are short and to the point.

I just watched a few episodes with my boys. A+ for creativity on the story. It is excellent writing as it is both a teen coming of age show and an adult dealing with childhood traumas show. It’s funny and serious. Just great

Good to see an Allie clip. They should have written a part for Elizabeth Shue even a walk on role. Make her the homeless woman but not as Allie

Bananarama pancakes. Nice

The show is really good. They have developed all the characters, and there’s tons of redemption. It’s not black and white good and bad.

I have finished season 1.

Can we all just agree that the Larusso daughter is the villain of this show? Everyone else who acts badly is simply reacting to their demons. They are at least trying to evolve into better people. This chick has none of those obstacles. She grew up in privilege with loving and supporting parents. Yet she was cruel to old friends. She was cruel to new friends. Then she shows up to a high school party hand in hand with another guy carrying a blanket and feigns ignorance of the appearance. She gets hit in a general scuffle and everyone acknowledges it was unintentional but SHE is the one one holding the grudge and causing drama on what is a big moment for either of the boys she pretends to care for. She had the ability to heal everyone in this story but refused to do so.

I do like her nipples poking out of her swimsuit when she first meets Robby. Thanks for that, evil sliz.

Just about every character has some good and bad. I think Kreese, Hawk, and Tory (season 2) have shown no signs of redemption. The rest have various levels of good and bad.

Is it wrong to fap to a chick if she is over 18 in real life but playing the role of a 16 year old in the scene? Asking for a friend.

It was enjoyable enough that I finished both seasons in a week. They do flesh out the characters well and the storyline remained interesting. Acting is not good but that’s fine for what it is.

It seems like the narrative arc is headed for some kind of dialectical synthesis between Miyagi Do and Cobra Kai Karate, which will fuse into a single entity so Johnny/Daniel can thwart the renewed threat of KREESE.

In forthcoming seasons, Daniel will open a chain of Valley-area Dojos in partnership with Johnny, who will serve as fight director. Daniel will be the chief strategist and spiritual guide. It will basically be a rewriting of Karate Kid III. Perhaps even Terry Silver or Mike Barnes will reappear as KREESE's co-conspirators.
