Montgomery will get shredded in NYC. If the Mets were smart, they'd turn around and flip him to an AL pennant contender like the Red Sox.

Who else they have on that starting staff other than Thor? Batman is gone and now DeGrom maybe. I'd think theyd want to rebuild the starting pitching.

Syndergard and Matz would be their 1-2.

Not sure I would give up both Russell and Happ...

For DeGrom? Just those two? That's crazy imo.

In the article it says the Mets prolly don't want to rebuild. They want to retool.

Look at the Yankees infielders and Clint Frazier. Only drawback is that probably the Mets don't want to help them out.
Brewers also have some bats available.

Agree with this. It would be an absolute fuckin steal by the Cubs if they got DeGrom for Russell, Happ, and that's it.

That would make it just a bad trade instead of an all time dumb trade on the Mets part.

Just those two guys is not going to get it done and even adding MOnty is not going to get it done. I think that would just be the starting point and there would be at least 2 prospects to go with..

If I'm the Mets I want Caratini as well. The Mets have horrible catching, they had the corpse of Jose Lobaton catching earlier this year.

That's fine. Send the whole farm system.

Baez and Bryant are the only untouchables on this entire roster IMO.

Yeah, I think Carantini will be asked for.

If de Grom is a dollar, Russell, Happ and Montgomery are a couple quarters and a dime. You can't sell that to your fanbase. At least the White Sox got the number prospect in baseball in Moncado. He has lost some shine but there is still a pedigree there. No one in that trade from the Cubs has a pedigree like that. It has to start with Baez if I'm the Mets.

If that's the deal its amazing. Especially if they can pull off signing Harper in the off season they are set.

yeah I know...it is mainly just Happ I dont really want to deal. but I could get over it. Degrom is really good.

Happ is like a young Zobrist but with maybe more power.

To put this in perspective, a free agent rental Randy Johnson in his prime went to Houston for Freddy García, Carlos Guillén, and John Halama. Garcia and Guillen were long time MLB starters, and Halama was good but got injured and had his career shortened. Many think the Mariners didn't get enough.

DeGrom isn't a rental. He is arbitration eligible and isn't a free agent until 2021.

If you can get him without completely gutting your young core you have to do it.

We can use the Gerrit Cole trade this winter as reference. Happ is the Moran in the deal.

Without the one skill that made Zobrist, and that is contact skills. He literally strikes out half the number of times as Happ. I'll buy the more power, but he isn't likely ever to have a sub 20% K rate

Look what the Cubs gave up for Q. And DeGrom is light years better than Q.

It's gonna cost a lot. Might be worth it though. DeGrom can stand toe to toe with any pitcher in baseball.

Is there a more affordable starter we can get on an expiring contract who's better than Chatwood?
