Sources: #Cubs targeting Zach Britton as trade deadline approaches.

Quote:
The Cubs have been tracking Zach Britton and remain deeply involved in the discussions as the Baltimore Orioles market their high-profile reliever before the July 31 trade deadline, three sources told The Athletic.

Hmm... I don't mind some bullpen depth, but starting pitching is more of a priority to me.

Prolly wouldn't have to give up nearly as much for Britton as opposed to DeGrom tho.

ummm....the difference in price between Britton and DeGrom is massive. I don't want Britton without Bundy included in the package. No way any big league talent is going back. Bote or Vic maybe but Vic is kind of important seeing as there is no capable backup catcher in the entire organization.

Well, I guess having another bullpen arm is key since the starters suck.

The #Astros and #Cubs are trying to match up prospects with the #Orioles on a Zach Britton deal. Others involved too. Heard the O’s would like to wrap it up by early in the week. With Familia, Hand and Herrera having moved, it’s ramped up the pace of talks.

Fucking Astros are a monster anymore. Britton is risky but worth the gamble but not at a crazy price. I'm sure they've developed 2,3 backup plans for other closers. You know Fernando Rodney would be dirt cheap and he still has good stuff and a shit load of experience. Plus he isn't scared of the moment.

I am fucking all in on more bullpen help. This bullpen as constructed will be toast by the beginning of August at this rate.

I am 100% finished with Wilson after this game.

I just started listening to murph's show from today ,

and he is right. He said officially this team is in trouble because we have no starting pitching. Just listen to the first 5-10 min, good listen.

Murph's show today said that he knows 3 guys from the cubs wanted him and like 8 didnt

3 were one executive and 2 analytic guys.

And that made the deal. After the deal, the other 5-8 ppl didnt talk to the 3 ppl for months!

I'm really not sure what this team needs. They have guys that have gotten it done in all areas. They have also fucked up in all areas as well. There is no order to the pen really other than hurt Morrow being the shut down closer.

My 2 square pegs on offense are Schwarber and Russell. Russell's D has been shit this year compared to what he was. Schwarber is so hot or cold that he is really hard to read going forward. Then you have Darvish. That is a huge deal if he can actually pitch well the last few months.

Thats not a bad idea. Give them shit and eat the rest of his salary and if he pans out awesome. Something about this years team makes me think they are a snake in the grass. They are just staying where they need to and playing all kinds of lineups and the pen is all over the place. When its go time I think they will be ready to strike and kill.

Mike Fiers is also a nice innings eating starter/middle reliever.

Epstein shouldn't be allowed acquire another arm, he's just no good at it. Let Hoyer or Hickey make the call.

I do see your point. Chatwood and Darvish are a HUGE miss.

Edwin Jackson and Quintana too, not so good in Boston pitching either.

Hamels would be interesting, if we were still the team where pitches come to get better. They get worse now with Hickey.

So far the deadline has been a huge thud for the Cub. Theo and Jed getting beat out on everyone they are rumored to be on. I really can't see them getting anyone, since they seem reluctant to trade anyone.

There are still five full days until the deadline. If the Cubs do not want to trade anyone from their 25 man, than the pickens are probably going to be pretty slim.

yeah making judgements about what the Cubs do at the deadline right now is stupid.

The only gamechanger that has been traded is Machado and the Cubs were never really in on that.

I take that back...somewhat. The deadline is at noon? 3pm? So 4 and a half days. Plus the rest of this evening. So yeah, there is still some time left.

Hamels at home this season: 6.41 ERA, 16 HRs, 59 IP.

Hamels on road: 2.93 ERA, 7 HRs, 55.1 IP
Ehhh road splits are great. Pitching in Texas sucks but then again that’s what we heard about Chatwood in Colorado .
