Ventura never did better than and F. Except for 2008, Kenny Williams had had all F's since 2005.

Giolito quietly has had 3 really strong starts in last 4. Moncada coming around to where he was pre-injury. Rodon is looking better every start. Anderson on pace for a 25hr/35 SB stolen season. These 4 keep going down this path an get Lopez back on track, could be a productive 2nd half in terms of development.

I’m not sure who needs this all-star break more: the team or me.

2nd time thru the order and the wheels fell off in a hurry. King may be a reliever going forward. Too bad.

Covey has some balls. I'll give him that. Pitched a terrific game and that was a terrific catch.

Not a real good (or quick) first inning here for Lopez.

In the spirit of Dr. Ken (whom I detest), I will offer a best-case scenario for the second half, in which they have the Red Sox, Yankees, Cubs, and a whole bunch of games with the Indians. I'd be ecstatic with 26-37 (.413). Without a bullpen, this will be a tall order, but if the starters pitch decently, Abreu and Moncada hit, and we avoid gaffes on defense and the basepaths...26-37 could happen. I don't give a damn about the record, but obviously want to see some upward mobility, some direction. Learn to win close games.

I had hoped this would be like the second half of 1989 (or much of 1999, when the rebuilding Sox were near .500 until the late August) when a remarkably poor but young Sox team scratched out some wins in the second half. In 1990, of course, they added a Hall of Famer, an All-Star third baseman, and a pitcher who would contend for Cy Youngs over the next five years. The Sox can't count on that, which makes this pretty depressing, but my pipe dream for the last 63 games is still 26-37.

16-47 and I start drinking again.

I would not care about the record. Just that Moncada hits, Lopez, Rodon and Giolito pitch well, and that whoever gets called up looks good. Also, put Moncada at third. He can't play 2nd.
