Yeah Premier was nothing nice. I had to track down the D. Original just to hear that damn piano go off in the background.

I thought having an African American police chief was supposed to make a dramatic difference? It's almost like the people responsible for the drugs and murders don't give a damn about the skin color of the police chief.

Why would the skin color of the police chief matter to a criminal when the skin color of the victim obviously doesn't?
Did any of the black leaders or preachers specifically state this prior to the hire? Don't really remember.

This is silly. That Hardiman dude seems change the name of his organization every week. I really like to know the actual number of blacks that plan to march as a part of this.

Is their argument that the North Side doesn't get enough crime? Some of these so called messages are misguided and misplaced.

There is something that Hardiman should be protesting but won't and it pertains to the North Side.

There was clamoring for an African-American police chief because that person would understand the needs of the community and be able to relate to people in the community better than anyone else.

From who? You are suggesting this but i don't recall ever seeing that. Was there a mass movement by African Americans to install a black police chief?

Don't think there was. Sure someone somewhere probably thought that but we've had other black police chiefs and still had high crime rates.

I didn't write down the name of the person and the organization they are affiliated with every time I heard "Community activist calls for African-American police commissioner." on the news.

I think the argument is that the North side (and Downtown) gets all the resources. Hard to argue that they're wrong when our broke ass city is going to shell out BIG BUCKS to help a favored developer create Lincoln Yards.

They'd have to provide a breakdown but there is a disparity in the amount of resources allocated for Downtown area/River North areas schools and South/West side schools.

Its no accident that there are 4-5 Selective Enrollment high schools in the Loop River North Area alone.

If you want to talk about Daley II's two-tiered public school system that was used to drive gentrification and force the poor (mostly blacks and Hispanics but working class whites too) to the suburbs, that's a discussion on its own.

Emanuel's program is actually more two tiered than Daley's but i understand what you saying however.

Neither of the "organizers" have a hope in hell of getting themselves or real candidates elected. One's essentially a pulpit pimp & the other isn't far from it imo.

The one I never get is Willie Wilson.

I knew this was you all along. Anyway, like Tad I cannot pinpoint a quote on a single person or even if it is the media or activists that mention it. It seems that in tough situations around the country where the cops shoot a AA man there is an inference that a AA police chief would help the situation. I have no idea if that is true or just my read on it.

No his reference was specifically to Chicago and used the word "clamoring" which implies that there was some sort of widespread movement. I don't think that blacks see much difference in the treatment of them by black cops as opposed to white cops.

I definitely don't believe that blacks thought that the crime rate would decrease if there was a black cop placed in the Commissioner Spot.

Some of the lowest crime rates on record happened under McCarthy.

Close to half of the last 30 years CPD has been led by an African-American.
