In the spirit of Dr. Ken (whom I detest), I will offer a best-case scenario for the second half, in which they have the Red Sox, Yankees, Cubs, and a whole bunch of games with the Indians. I'd be ecstatic with 26-37 (.413). Without a bullpen, this will be a tall order, but if the starters pitch decently, Abreu and Moncada hit, and we avoid gaffes on defense and the basepaths...26-37 could happen. I don't give a damn about the record, but obviously want to see some upward mobility, some direction. Learn to win close games.

I had hoped this would be like the second half of 1989 (or much of 1999, when the rebuilding Sox were near .500 until the late August) when a remarkably poor but young Sox team scratched out some wins in the second half. In 1990, of course, they added a Hall of Famer, an All-Star third baseman, and a pitcher who would contend for Cy Youngs over the next five years. The Sox can't count on that, which makes this pretty depressing, but my pipe dream for the last 63 games is still 26-37.

16-47 and I start drinking again.

16-47 & I stop.

That just can't happen if the kids can play.

Nice job by Giolito there after not getting a couple close calls against Trout.

Still a great fucking outing.

He kind of reminds me of Jim Kaat.

Kitty was a little before my time. I can't imagine Rodon is nearly as good on twitter.

That may be on the coach, not Avi. Sometimes a runner is told to go on contact. Don't know though. It did turn out bad because the runner on second stayed at 2nd. Avi might have tried to get into a run down to get the guy to 3rd and maybe even the batter to second?

Big Jim was one of my favorite pitchers. What I loved about him was the fact that he stood tall on the mound and his delivery was always consistent. As soon as the ball hit the catcher's glove, he wanted the ball back quickly and he didn't waste any time getting it to the plate once again. Sort of like Buerhle but completely different mechanics.

It's Rodon's MO. He's always needed 50 or so innings in every season for rhythm and control. He's an ace after 50 innings and then after a while, gets hurt.
