JORR, and his eunchs,

Where in the history of the board has a piece from an undergrad with no real world experience been posted to discuss a serious topic? Except where race is involved? Why is that?

As for the content the kid wrote, most of it was the same cutesy political b.s. that hacks like Thomas Sowell has been writing to keep his stipend coming from AEI or the Heritage foundation. Which the kid cited as support throughout. And articles from Money magazine that no one here read.

How hard should one really have to talk to dismiss writings based entirely on contempt, cynicism and to please one's bigoted paymaster? I guess quite a bit if race is involved around here.

Sowell and his acolytes have been pushing this crap from ivory towers for years. Pointing their fingers at those people for years, ignoring the realities of life for years, just broadly talking about immorality of "them" and tossing out platitudes about bootstraps.

Your argument is I don't like it so attack the writers. The bolded is completely meaningless jargon.

WFR makes a small decent point regarding wondering. Dues to HR and lawsuits almost all regular applicants never find out specifics on why they were not hired.

I would say this dynamic is discussed at length here: https://quillette.com/2018/07/19/black- ... ealth-gap/

But he's just a philosophy major. So it doesn't matter.

3 things jump out immediately.

1. Knew he was going to use the "other countries didn't get rich from slavery thus it is fallacious to think this country got rich "off the backs of slaves" argument. Knew you would agree with this portion of the argument among others as well.

2. Comparing the treatment of other groups to African Americans is stupid since none of them faced the hardships that African American faced. Japanese Internment lasted for 1-2 years. African American Slavery lasted for 250 years.

Would you like to ask the Average Slave whether they would have preferred to be Enslaved for the entirety of their life or would they have preferred 1-2 years of detainment? Also let's ask any of the groups that you listed if they would prefer to be treated in the way slaves were treated or would they prefer the treatment they received. What do you think the answer would be?

Also immigration is voluntary slavery was not. Any group that immigrates into this country does so under their own free will. No one forced them to come here

Third. If Government action is so detrimental then why did whites in both the North and Southern regions fight so hard to end Reconstruction?

As an addendum is this rather stupid notion. Among Many

Yeah blacks were really making strides pre Civil Rights. See Their level of povery decreased from 87% to 47% What the hell are they complaining about? Post Civil Rights pd poverty level hasn't been anywhere near 47% so how could the Civil Rights movement have been detrimental?

Also aren't you the dude that not too long ago referenced the utopianism of Jim Crow life for blacks? Doesn't the 87% poverty rate sort of shoot that argument straight to hell?

This is largely incoherent, if not outright imaginary. Slavery ended almost 100 years before Japanese internment. And saying it's not big deal because of slavery is completely missing the point.

If you think screaming racism is the way to improve the lives of black people in the United States have at it. The author said it's time for inward looking and provided key data points. If you care to discuss those in a reasonable way we can have at it.

Jim Crow Parallelled Japanese intermment and Irish-German immigration parallelled slavery. It is disingenuous to make comparisons that really aren't comparable.

You keep bringing this stuff up then when you are called on it you retreat to the all too familliar position of "if you think that slavery was bad then have at it" crap.

No one ever said that other groups didn't "have it bad". That has never been the argument.

Blacks by far had it worse. Apologists for racism won't see it that way but that is why they are at the least apologist. If you can show me an instance in which the discrimination of other groups is comparable then "you have at it". Sourcing a guy that uses Japanese Internment as the comp makes no sense.

None of the groups were enslaved and none were victimized by Jim Crow laws.

Lastly they all voluntarily immigrated to this country so in essence they knew what it was. Can we say the same about blacks? If they had then the same applies to them as well.

When you say that "Slavery" ended 100 years before internment its false on a few levels.
1. It ended about 75-80 years before internment.

2. Jim Crow was an off shoot to slavery thus some of the conditions confronting blacks during slavery also confronted them under Jim Crow too.

This isn't about the guy's academic credentials and you prove that by immediately going after Thomas Sowell. If you want to call them "Toms" just go ahead, but don't pretend that's real argument. I get that you don't like black conservatives, or conservatives in general.

That's simply bullshit to say that not knowing why you were "denied something" is uniquely black or something that others don't have to face.

How did I know that you'd say that.

As for Sowell and his thinking, I honestly respect it or him less than Steve Bannon or Robert Mercer. They're at least honest, consistent and not self loathing.

Forgot this little nugget. "Screaming racism" is what ended slavery and Jim Crow. Screaming racism is what created Affirmative Action laws. These laws increased the ranks of the black middle class. Do you think that any of this happens if blacks had to depend on the benevolence and morality of people that think as you think?

Great response. Really deep.

Attacking someone's credentials without addressing their argument is lazy and unconvincing. If a message is a good one, it makes no difference who the author is.

But by all means, carry on calling everyone you don't like "hacks," "cons," and "puppets" because you can't refute their points.

And your first premise is silly in the Internet age. There are all kinds of people with various levels of education publishing articles on a wide variety of topics. And MANY have been cited here. And it's not like one need a doctorate to write on a subject. Ta-Nehisi Coates isn't a college grad. Do you dismiss him out of hand?

I still love the concept of Eunuchs. In reading a book on the Byzantine Empire, it was amazing that Eunuchs were valued in government administration apparently because they were deemed more trustworthy.

I actually did address his argument and no one bothered to address any of mine save for the Sheriff.

WFR consistently makes the faulty argument that "blacks aren't the only ones that suffered". No one has ever made that argument but to suggest that Blacks should simply shut the fuck up because 100,000 Japanese Americans people were detained during a time when America was at war with their native country no less, is ignorant and quite frankly insulting.

I can and do hold Sowell, his writings & his life experiences in complete contempt for their shallowness and ability to play exactly one note. Just like Coates, who btw I generally dissmiss out of hand as being equally pedantic.

As for what's silly in the internet age, I never would expect a guy like Denis or Ogie to cite some underformed, inexperienced, unproven kid's piece in any discussion about economics or investments. But I would expect a Drake LaRieta to cite the wisdom of Adam LaRoche or his kid. Or America on the fall of Western Civilization. By the same token I can't take that kid's writings seriously on race or any other sociological matter. He's about as experienced as the last two posters I cited.

I still love the concept of Eunuchs. In reading a book on the Byzantine Empire, it was amazing that Eunuchs were valued in government administration apparently because they were deemed more trustworthy.

I typed that word and immediately thought of Mel Brooks' History of the World, Part I.

I thought clearing the air was a post from Whistler about his bathroom experience at an ice cream shop outside of Wrigley.

Was disappointed when it was just one more of your narcissistic post.

I give Sowell a tad bit more sway than you but i never lose sight of the fact that he is beholden to his benefactors as most black Conservatives are. They are the opposite side of the "race hustler" coin though MANY conservatives fail to see it thar way.

 You just don't like anybody, do you?

I'm also going to have to disagree with you on Coates. While I'm not a fan of his, mainly because I think he hates me due to something I can't do anything about, I do think the article on reparations that made his reputation was thoughtful and well-supported by facts. He may have drawn some incorrect conclusions. And you don't have to agree with his premise. But it was a piece that moved a conversation forward. And I would never dismiss it due to his academic credentials or lack thereof.

That's an interesting take, and I see what you mean.

I always wondered about the motivation of black conservatives. Meaning, do they really see the world the way I do? Or are they just the equivalent of a hot take in that it helps them break through the crowd and be so different, allowing them to get ahead of others. In my heart, I always hoped that they just see that limited government is the best approach. And now conservative doesn't even mean limited, fiscally balanced government.

Whichever Conservative Based institute that he has ever worked for. If you look at his career and i haven't in about the last 10-15 years, you will find a steady stream of conservative think tank types such as the Hoover Institute and Brookings littered amongs them. He is only relevant (as most black Conservatives are) as long as he denigrates black people. Not exactly novel as Booker T. mastered this very same thing over a 130 years ago. Once he stops doing that then all of the grants, books, speaking tours, and lofty appointments to prestigious schools such as Hoover run out.

Its why i tend not to take much of what he and most black Conservatives say seriously. In order to maintain the support of their Conservative benefactors it is necessary for them to disparage blacks while conversely ignoring or diminishing the role of racism.

The part I bolded above is what the entire discussion hinges on. I would argue- as I'm sure Sowell would himself- that he does no such thing. But at least that is a discussion and not just calling someone names because you disagree with his politics.

I agree with him and other black Conservatives when they discuss black accountability. There has to be some culpability on the part of blacks. They go wrong when they completely dismiss the role of structural and institutional racism however.

I actually had to critique "Vision of the Anointed" in grad school and it was the first time that i'd heard of Sowell. I did no background on him and simply read the book. I never referred to him as a racist though i knew the instructor was laying for it.

The instructor wrote "did you know he was black" as part of his assessment after grading the paper.
