That was my argument during the whole ACA process, too...there was no way affordable insurance would work because of the monetization of the medical industry.

Add to that, the number of people that overuse insurance because they run to the fucking doctor every time they have the sniffles, and the costs skyrocket...you're an insurance guy...same concept as having your auto coverage go up because you're calling in claims for stupid shit (roadside assistance and towing coverage because you do something dumb like lock your keys in the car, etc).

And we won't see it go down because none of the garbage politicians that are in power are going to bite the hands that feed them (medical professionals making donations/pharma companies throwing money around, etc). And we're stuck in this endless loop of bullshit because no one can get elected in this stupid ass country anymore without the backing and blessing of big business.

Add to that our overly litigious society, and the costs of medical malpractice insurance would undoubtedly kill any sort of benefit of a single payer system...either the coverage would be part of the deal, i.e. shakes' clients sue the government instead of the doctor, or the money doctors are making would not be enough to cover the insurance along with their 3rd Porsche (poor babies).

Welp Boyd, you have hit on the most of the major issues. I have a strong preference for high deductible plans (i.e. a stop loss) in tandem with HSA accounts. In that way, people that make better life choices (avoid high cost chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes) or are more prudent with running to the doctor, spend less out of pocket. As Leash and I have said many times, our current health care system is not insurance, but a dollar trading scheme.

We have to better link behavior and costs with people taking ownership of the overuse of our medical resources. The prescription drug epidemic is really something.

Saw where the Socialist gal, Ocasio, just fumbled all over herself over trying to explain how she would pay for all of this free education including free trade schools, free medicare, free everything basically. In her questioning, she stated that the Defense Department received a $700B INCREASE in their budget. She then doubled down and said that they didn't even ask for it and that the government just "gave it" to them.

SHe also advocated to repeal the last tax cuts and instead to raise taxes past where they were before Trump acted. Also mandated carbon taxes and mandating that the US eliminate fossil fuels entirely and go to green energy.

I love this dingbat and hope like hell that the Dems go full bore with these socialists. I hope whatever this Ocasio does that she gets her mouth fixed.
