Putting aside color/race etc, it's a bad law no matter what.

Just thought Id cut to the inevitable chase

No, that's not the chase here.

If someone makes that case, I would say that even bringing race into it hurts the overall cause. It's just a stupid fuckin law for wannabe cops.

Agreed, but the article you posted does just that.

Not really. I mean, it mentions their race but by today's standard's that hardly even registers. There are articles making that case, this one is pretty much just the facts.

I guess I don't see the point in mentioning what their races were. A bad deed is a bad deed either way. That's all I'll say.

See now if I’m the Milwaukee PD, I use this as a defense to the lawsuit that NBA dude filed. “ See, we only tased him for parking in a handicapped space , look at how bad it could’ve gone !!l

Reading this story, and it basically reads like the law was written to protect the shooter in cases like this. So there is about zero chance of an arrest.

Agreed, unless they had video of the guy giving breaks to non-disabled whites parking in the same spot, but then going after the black person.

And the mentioning of race isn't only unfair to the white guy who may be falsely accused of racism (though he's a dick regardless), but also might create/reinforce a perception that blacks are more frequent parking violators than other races. (There was the recent case of the Bucks basketball player parking illegally and getting tazed.)

He'll be charged eventually.

I dont think the law was designed for people who START the confrontation, but it's Florida so who knows?

I don’t get why this guy or others for that matter just don’t do the freeze don’t move. Why shoot right off? Was there multiple shots?

Just keeping your hands to yourself would have saved everyone some heartache.

The states that have adopted stand-your-ground in practice, either through case law/precedent, jury instructions or by other means, are California, Colorado, Illinois, New Mexico, Oregon, Virginia, and Washington.

States that have adopted stand-your-ground, but limit it to only when a person is within their vehicle, are North Dakota, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

The states that have castle doctrine only with the duty to retreat in public are Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nebraska, New York, New Jersey, and Rhode Island. This means that people can use deadly force in their home, car, or other form of abode but have to retreat in public.

What's up with Vermont, you have to leave your house if someone breaks in? Doesn't seem right.

Based on Hussra's post it must not be the law so much as the people involved in this case.

They are 100% correct. The law itself is not the problem, but rather how this sheriff is applying it. Clearly any reading of the law would show it is not applicable here.

Well that is the state that gives us Bernie fucking Sanders. They want you to turn over your home to the government so that our new socialist overlords can enjoy their dacha.

I think most of the states that have formal "Stand Your Ground" legislation on the books have passed such laws post-2010 Repub takeover of state legislatures and modeled after Florida's SYG. Doing anything "because Florida does it", not the best look.

Do you see any time a person defending themselves with a gun needs some legal protection?

Yes I see people here have said that. I was unable to read it so I was trying to get at what would make better or more like the others around the country where this does not seem to be happening.
