Shutting down Lake Shore Drive at 4:00 in the afternoon on a Thursday is going to fuck things up everywhere. The traffic coming from the Loop that normally takes Lake Shore Drive is going to find another way. It's going to disrupt pretty much everything to the north of the city.

This behavior will only graduate. Went from the Dan Ryan on a Saturday, to Lake Shore Drive on a rush hour workday, whats next? Does anyone think this protest is going to do anything to stop black people from killing each other? Yea right. They want economic opportunity and jobs? Countless employers have moved to the south side. Remember Finkl? Remember widening and expanding 41 south of South Shore? Remember Torrence? How about the imminent Red Line expansion?

They are getting more than they deserve for what meager contributions they make.

But soon they'll come up with something new. Shut down O'Hare or close multiple expressways at once. Eventually it will build past "shut it down" and they'll start redistributing the pain directly. CH and others will have a lot harder time saying WELL HOW DOES THIS ACTUALLY AFFECT YOU? then.

Most posters here are anti-protest. They won't admit it, but they think people should just shut the fuck up and deal with ____.

It's not my protest, but Id guess that they are hoping it goes from "yea, that violence in the part of the city Ill never be is terrible, hopefully something is done" to "lets all work together to make sure something is done"

I think all protests should be held only in governmentally approved staging areas out of site and only at times that inconvenience no one.

I guess I do Arps! My point is when you have that sort of oft putting and devisive slogan out there, what do they really expect to happen? Perhaps if they had taken a "hey, this is your city too and just a few miles south this is whats going on" type of approach-- as you indicated-- maybe some heads get turned.

This way is more likely to piss people off and get ugly.
