One of the best lines in the show yet. That younger daughter is something else.

Edit: Help me with the meaning behind that "Ripe" comment. You smell ripe or something like that....

That was when she came home after Richard was fingering her.

Hah, I gotta stop playing Clash of Clans while watching these shows.....

Could the Chief be Camille's father?

The step father doesn't seem to like him, but the mom seems too warm to him as her would be ex. Plus how does a rich guy become a cop.....doesn't line up for me.

Is that the story of how the mother got her money? I was under the impression that it was her family who were wealthy hog farmers for generations all the way back to at least the Calhouns.

Camille's step father certainly gives the impression of being a dilettante as well, although he seems to care for Camille far more than her mother.

All the jump cuts/flashbacks can be a little disconcerting.

It's a very dark show.

The flashbacks are pretty effective as a weekly show. I don't want to see/know what happened to her in the woods as a teenager but I can't stop watching.

I haven't done a "down the internet rabbit hole" with this show but the changed words on just about every sign have some significance.

I wish this was set further south than Missouri. It doesn't have the same southern gothic feeling in Missouri.

I know people have a hard on for Amy Adams work but Patricia Clarkson is stealing the show in my opinion.

I think we know what happened and it was similar to what the Union soldiers did to her great great etc. grandmother for whom she was probably named. .

I think we know what happened with the football team.

I think something different happened at the hunting cabin.

I need to avoid going down the worm hole on this show. I dug way too deep on True Detective, and while that was interesting, it served no purpose. I have resolved to let the show play out and see where it ends up. I didn't even know she got fingered....

Yeah, pretty sure the Preakers are the mom's family.

Yep.

I don't care about the nonsensical words placed throughout the show that will ultimately have no real enhancement of my enjoyment. If there were a hint of the paranormal I would be interested but they are just reflective of Camille's thoughts. I don't care about her thoughts as it is all going to be revealed.

One thing that bothers is her alcoholism. There is something so deeply unattractive to me with a woman and alcohol. I don't mind social drinking where everyone is having fun. But the depression level drinking chokes me up.

In any case, I am enjoying the show and glad you guys are on board. God knows I need Jorr to help me out with all the stuff I miss on my own.

I don't think there's one person on the show I am rooting for.

Everyone is fucked up.

Yeah the dad went off the deep end that episode. The Sheriff's wife seems nice.

I'm starting to think it's possible that Camille is the killer.

It could be anyone at this point, but I was leaning towards Camille's mom.

It just seems too obvious for it to be Amma or Adora. But I guess it isn't really a murder mystery. The murders just seem like a backdrop for the fucked up family dynamics of the Crellin/Preakers and the fucked up values of the entire town.

Prepare to be disappointed. Unless they change the ending drastically from the original text. (I have not read, but I feel like Flynn is great at building up stories but awful at conclusions.)

I am almost certain it is going to be the mother (Adora) in some form or another.

That won't disappoint me. As I said, I don't consider it a murder mystery. Anyway, for those who have read the novel, no spoiler alerts please.

I doubt it is the Sheriff or the KC Cop. I don't see it being any of Camille's childhood cheerleader peers. But all else is pretty much in play including the current crop of weird teenagers in that town.

But yes, the murders are just a way to bring a collection of people together and explore that strange town and the human condition.

The mom is the worst among many unlikable characters. Anything that causes her pain, like a Volvo sitting in her yard, makes me quite happy.

I am wondering if Camille's alcoholism bothers you more than it would if it were a man. There is something about a women constantly drinking in such a depressed manner that makes me sad.

Just commenting on the it would be too obvious part. I find the story difficult to follow and certainly in the background. As you said though it's just an excuse to examine the Confederacy of dunces gathered in Wind Gap.

I find some of the dialogue to be tough to hear either because of the accents or people mumbling under their breath. Is it just me?

No, I read something about how the director made the sound low on purpose for the feel of it. I have to watch it with my sound turned up above 40 and have to remember to turn it down afterward or I'll have the TV blaring.

Agreed. I don't think we will see any surprises. It's really too late to introduce a surprise killer without it being

Tough to kill people when you are not there and it seems she is immediately noticed when she makes an appearance in town.

Rather than viewing her as an alcoholic woman, view her as an alcoholic reporter. Honestly, that changes the character stereotype from tragic to heroic. Everyone has an old alcoholic reporter from the past that they admire.
