What a job by Giolito. This is really something he can build on.

Amazing performance holding the Tigers to 3 runs in 6 innings.
Bases loaded with 0 out and allowing 0 runs is a good job by any pitcher.

I guess but it was Detroit and it was their 7,8,9 hitters who barely hit their weight.

It doesn't matter. Bases loaded with 0 out...Popup, strikeout, popup to allow zero runs is a great job regardless of who is on the bump or who is at the plate. Giolito is a guy who comes unraveled easily. Sox score 3, he gave up 3 in the first, and he was chewing on his glove walking back to the dugout he was so pissed at himself. After, he stelled in and kept the Tigers off the board for the rest of the game. As I said that is something that any pitcher- a young guy like Giolito especially- can build on.

It's good he's decided to build after 35 MLB starts.

I haven't given up on him but I don't see the pitching IQ I expected from an obviously intelligent human being. Obvious stuff like first pitch strikes. But I do understand he may be pressing from a 5 MPH mystery drop in velocity. And velocity affects your breaking stuff too. I think we'd all feel better if he showed up next ST throwing 97 and the hellacious curve we saw last year.

I don't know but generally speaking a drop in velocity like that is pretty typical for young pitchers. They just come up with a tired arm since they are not used to throwing as many innings as starters in the majors are required to do. . The important thing is that these pitchers do not change their mechanics in attempting to get their velocity back. That can result in a pretty bad injury.

Why would he have had a tired arm at the start of the season?

Through June 16 he averaged 91.6 on his fastball.

Since then his fastball has been 93.2.

Davidson and Delmonico should not be allowed to play in the infield at the same time. I guess they had no choice.

That’s two F bombs from Rodon. Might want to turn the field mic off.

Defense not real good today, beside the double play

Timmy has a .287 OBP and a terrible .689 OPS. His bat is a black hole in the lineup and he does not deserve to play every day.

I am talking in general terms about young pitchers not being unusual to see their velocity go down.

There are at least a couple of guys and maybe more in the minors who will be rising to fill roles as well as another return of Nate Jones.

I'm no minor league guy but add Jones, Bummer, Hamilton are almost definites and Burdi and Ruiz are at least on the radar for spots

You cannot count on Jones at all. He's like the Kevin White of this bullpen. He has been hurt a ton and he was bad this year anyway.

Yea, that's not a thing that happens regularly.
