They would have won that game, probably. What about future games? The guy that retaliates is dealing with a suspension and missing 1 start or multiple appearances if he is a bullpen arm. Does the 26th man on the 40-man roster give you as good of a chance to win future games?

This is as 'homer baseball' as you can get. And I completely disagree with your assumption that a significant portion are old school. It gets less and less every year. There's something to be said about the game turning into wiffleball with zero fear from the batter. it's not good for a pitcher's livelihood for hitters to have zero fear. I firmly believe Pedro wouldn't have been as effective without the fear. But i also believe there's a fine line line between purpose and cowardice. it's a shame the players quit self policing properly and the league had to step in.

So, the ones who advocate throwing at people will be perfectly fine when, eventually, a batter decides to go after the pitcher with a bat, yes?

RPB is right. You send in a meaningless pitcher to drill someone once the game is decided. You also drill the pitcher the next time you face him. Your future star needs to know the team and staff has his back.
