Rather than viewing her as an alcoholic woman, view her as an alcoholic reporter. Honestly, that changes the character stereotype from tragic to heroic. Everyone has an old alcoholic reporter from the past that they admire.

I can't view Camille as heroic in any way. She is sad, pathetic and weak. I view reporters as folks performing a civic type duty and putting a check on institutions, but rarely do I view them as heroic.

Fuck this show forever of that's the case.

Yeah, I'm fairly confident that's not gonna happen. It's like when Scorehead suggested the perfect ending to Breaking Bad would be to have Walt wake up and it was all a dream.

The mother or younger sister has to be directly involved.

Yeah that's a pretty judgmental description. She's clearly mentally fucked up from her childhood, but I wouldn't describe it as pathetic or weak. Sad for sure, but that's sorta the point of the entire show.

Tough to kill people when you are not there and it seems she is immediately noticed when she makes an appearance in town.

Well, there are definitely some gaps in her timeline. We know she checked out of rehab early. And I thought it was interesting that the doctor told Willis that it's very unusual for these people to hurt others. Seemed like a potential red herring.

If you think about it, there are many characters in the show who are "fucked up" or "crazy", but only one is absolutely certifiably nuthouse crazy.

So are we sure the Chief isn't Camille's dad? I thought at the Calhoun Day party one of the women, talking about Camille and the detective, said something like "Those Crullen women sure do like their cops." or something like that. What else would that mean?

I took it to mean that Camille (and others) like the KC cop. But I agree there is something intimate between Camille's mom and the sheriff.

Adora uses charm with a hint of sexuality for manipulation. Every conversation she has with the chief involves getting inside info on the investigation.

The woman is confronting her difficult past.

The alcoholism is a learned coping technique. Everyone in the town drinks. Everyone in her profession drinks.

I have yet to see a single healthy romantic relationship in the town.

No I'm not sure about that at all. I'd think it's likely.

Except that Adora is awfully chummy with the Chief and seems pretty contemptuous of Camille's father.

Regarding the drinking, it doesn't have the southern charm when so many are day drinking beer. I'd expect something more genteel like Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil. Wind Gap drinking seems trashy.

I think Adora is contemptuous of him when Camille upsets her.

But you may be right.

Camille is clearly damaged, but not a killer. SPOILERS!!!! I think it is fairly obvious that Adora's creepy husband is the killer and Adora is likely complicit.

True Detective I was a horror movie that turned into a police procedural. Sharp Objects is a police procedural that has turned into a horror movie. Much better!

Agreed.

I still don't like the hint of the supernatural with the woman in white, the changing wording on signs and the ghosts of dead girls. It seems like a cheap red herring.

I'm also disappointed that the significance of the hunting shack has never really been addressed. At this point it really is only tied in as her first experience with sexuality that she could not turn away from. Maybe she is as the detective thought, just a run of the mill "drunk and slut" rather than an interesting character

I think the changing words and the ghost of Marian are just a way to illustrate Camille's state of mind. Also, I'm not sure the murders have really been solved. Could Amma actually be Camille's daughter from the rape in the woods? I'm not sure how that would really help the plot though.

I'm getting the feeling the viewer assigns more meaning to whatever happened in the woods than the characters in the story.

I think Camille is being honest in her portrayal that it was an uncomfortable but not unentirely desired moment in her life.

I do agree with you that the murders are not solved. Adora's munchhausen by proxy isn't necessarily consistent with the other murders. She is a murderer as well but maybe not the murderer of the girls from the town.

I am easily confused, so I have no shot of figuring this out. I hope the dad kills Adora.

I feel like that's a possibility. The Chief or Jackie might kill her too. I also think Amma may have killed the girls.

Goddamn Adora is fucked up.

I agree that just because Adora killed Marian and is poisoning Amma doesn't mean she killed Anne and Natalie.

Can'twait for the finale.
