Nobody gives a shit who cuts the checks, as long as ownership shuts up and lets the professionals like Epstein and Hoyer make all the decisions.

Cubs next off day is 9/13. Darvish is done for the year, Montgomery is on the DL with a shoulder injury. You need a fifth starter who can give the team 6 innings to save the bullpen. If someone else goes on the DL, do you trust a rookie pitcher to come in with the division still in doubt and go 5-6 innings? Shields has been way better this year than his '16 & '17 years. He comes to the NL and gets to face the pitcher at least once a game. I think he would help them out a lot.

I don't think the division is in jeopardy, Chatwood can start a few games.

Brewers- 3GB
Cardinals - 3.5GB and they are rolling

So you would rather have Chatwood over Shields?

Detroit, Cincy n Mets on deck. I think the bats are about to explode and overcome poor pitching. I don't want any White Sox stink on this roster.

I can't wait for him to be around the team and Chili for a few weeks so he can explain (after the season when he is gone) just why the fuck this team can't hit. Another god damn night of zero offense.

Is this an actual story people are discussing or just the hosts at the Score with their outrage? I haven't heard any reaction, just saw the headlines about 2 hours ago and just saw the Julie DiCaro meltdown about it. Are we back discussing whether this team can be watched?

wow shocking news. why was he let go by the Nats? And how is it an allowable trade if it's past the trade deadline?

These are the type statements that make people think you are doing a bit.

There are waiver trades every year.....Verlander last year to the Astros was a waiver deal. You claim to be a big baseball guy for however many years but yet you do not understand a simple waiver trade

I never understood them and probably never will. Why have a trade deadline if you can still trade after it?

It's only a deadline on making arrangements between teams outside the waiver rules. Most waiver "trading" is hypothetical and exploratory -- if I were to make Bryce Harper available to you and you're interested, what could I get? oh, that's it? okay, never mind, sorry I asked. Maybe you're in good position at the end of July but much worse position in August. Having waiver transactions year-round allows teams to get money off their books, stock up more prospects, or get better. There's no reason to freeze the rosters altogether for two whole months.

The Julie DiCaro concern about Murphy's comments concerning homosexual lifestyles is an over-reaction. If you read his actual comments, he just says he disagrees with it, but can still have a relationship with a person in that lifestyle. It's just something he doesn't agree with. I see nothing wrong with people having their own opinion and if he doesn't share the thoughts of the liberals, he's entitled to his own opinion. I like the move, as it should increase the Cubs chances to nail down the division and compete for another title, all while not being tied to a long term deal. Just a high quality rental that came cheap.

There is NOTHING WRONG with his comments,he's an ignorant religious douche... That's his prerogative . he won't realize that you are born gay until his son or daughter or grandson or grand daughter are born gay.. Who gives a fuck? We need him to hit, not think.

No one should give a damn. He didn’t physically harm anyone like Chapman did. If Julie or Chris Haynes or any other self-absorbed person feels “triggered” by this and has to immediately take to Twitter to tell everyone how hard it is to watch the Cubs now, don’t fucking watch.

Yep exactly. The dude shared his beliefs and he has every right to hold them. And people have every right to disagree and think he is an idiot. Some are acting as if he abused someone.

Chapman may not have even physically harmed anyone, by the way.

Is this guy's career done after this year?

He seems to have pretty much lost it.

He isn't close to anywhere near the player he was last year and of course w/ the mets.

I think he, like many of the players is just beaten down by 40 games in 41 days. If they win their division, they will get 3 days off before the playoffs begin. If that happens, I think you will see several guys bounce back and perform at higher levels again. What happens to him after this year is not important to the Cubs. he is strictly a rental for this season.

Strange to say this, but there's only 3 hitters I have confidence in right now: Rizzo, Baez, and Bote.

Bote's barely clearing the Mendoza Line if he even is at all. He's been dining out on the slam off Madson for weeks.
