5 straight games scoring only one run, on a solo homerun.

I wonder if thats ever been done before in MLB history.

No defense of Davis or Hickey, but there seems to be a lot of blame going to coaches....they dont matter THAT much.

Bryant, Rizzo and Contreras have 39 homers combined. Last year at this time they had 60+.

Rizzo has not been that bad after a horrendous start. The other two are an issue. I heard some stat on the score where even some of the other hitters doing "better" with higher averages simply have not hit the ball hard at all to get those extra hits.

You have observed the game long enough to realize coaches are the first/easiest scapegoat across the league.

Hitting coach is pretty much year to year employment in baseball.

The guy in the Athletic had a stat that the Cubs are last in MLB in hard hit ball percentage with RISP. They also have way more 0-2 run games than Atlanta or Los Angeles.

It's not going to get better against playoff starters.

Davis was canned and Boston bats got better, Davis was hired here and Cub bats got cold.. Same goes for Bosio- Hickey.

The Cubs pitching was solid under Bosio and the hitting was solid under Malle

So why move on?

Even Chili's one "success" story, Heyward, isn't doing much. His OPS is a whopping .744 (vs .715 last year) and his projected WAR is actually down from last year.

Theo has pissed away so much money, it's ridiculous. Heyward, Darvish, Jackson, Chatwood. What's that, about $400 million?

Bryant wasn't doing much before the shoulder problem.
Rizzo
Addy
Contreras
Happ
Schwarber

All regressed under this buster.

The regression of Contreras is most worriesome for me. Consistently has bad at bats.

Watching last night, I noticed how they let early count strikes go by most notably Zobrists' first at bat. And then they end up swinging at a pticher's pitch later in the at bat. They were also swinging through and fouling off pitches that needed to be hit hard.

Yes. They aren't hitting mistake pitches. The last out of the game is a perfect example. Heyward went down on a 10 pitch at bat which on paper looks respectable but he missed 2 really good pitches to do damage with vs a trash closer.

Rizzo

Contreras
Happ
Schwarber

All regressed under this buster.

Every single one of Schwarber's offensive stats has improved since last year.
Rizzo's numbers are going to end up where they always are.
Happ is having a pretty normal sophomore regression

It seems like the Chili philosophy is sacrificing some power for contact. That may end up coming in handy in October.

But again, I don't really put much stock in these coaches in general.

That's exactly it. They are fouling off pitches that need to be launched. Add in the swings and misses and strikes looking, and they are just not making consistent, solid contact.

Schwarber has had a pretty good season....just kind of under the radar for some reason. Baez is hitting on a totally different level than he has in the past. Rizzo was mindfucked by his high school getting shot up and finally seems to have made peace with it around the all star break. Its

The problem I have with Davis is that these guys seem to be fucking morons when it comes to situational hitting now, as if he is teaching them to approach every ab the same way and imagine there are no runners on or something. Its almost like they are so wrapped up in analytics bullshit that they no longer scout the actual pitcher's tendencies, strengths and weakness in order to get the best possible outcome. Why do these guys not elevate balls when there are runners on 3rd with less than 2 outs. They get forced out at home or hit into a double play damn near every time this situation comes up or they just strike out. Ohhhhhhhhh but look at the 109 mph double play Contreras hit into .....hard contact blah blah blah....get the ball up and tie the fucking game.

Shit list: Russell, Contreras, Happ (more on Joe for putting him in spots he shouldn't be) and the pinch hitters (La Stella and Caratini especially have been awful lately).

How is he going to drive in runs with those two out machines batting in front of him as the game goes on? I've about had it with some of these lineups. Just pick something that makes strategical sense and stick with it. It should be:

Zobrist
Baez
Murphy
Rizzo
Contreras
Heyward
Happ
Bote
ALmora

First inning prediction:

Murphy doubles. Baez strikes out,. Rizzo hits hard into the a pseudo-shift, Murphy to third. Zobrist takes two strikes, and then pops out on a pitch above the letters on a 2-2 count.

Cubs score 9 runs on 15 hits today. Murphy goes 2-3 with a walk.
