The switch from Russell's bat in the lineup for Murphy's is pretty incredible. His deficiencies on defense might bite them in the ass once in a while, but dang, that is a nice bat to have in the order. Mills gave them one heck of an outing. When he gave up back to back doubles, I had visions of another bullpen draining game, but alas he gave us the kind of outing I hope for from Quintana and Hendricks. Joe Maddon drives me nuts sometimes, but I have to say, his teams sure do have a habit of playing their best late in a season and into the playoffs. What a great job Theo and Jed have done in getting Hamels and Murphy......I just wish they had brought back Arrieta and not signed Darvish and Chatwood. But at least they have found a way to fortify the team in time for another run at a title.

I didnt even know they got Murphy until I saw a replay of the game. Sometimes I scroll thru the milestones and noticed they had Murphy up there w his Nationals cap on. Thought it was a glitch from MLB. Then I saw him up and was floored.

Hamels been great. too.

I watched Arrieta go up against Shep’s brother?/cousin? in law tonight. Arrieta was good but not great. Had to work hard to get through 6. A couple home run balls cost him. I know it’s the Reds but it’ll be fun to see Mills again soon.

Pretty sure the Cubs had one hit through 5 or 6 innings....and it was by Mills.

As much as I like Russell's defense, you can't argue with results...I really thought his hitting would have improved a little.

I'd still play Almora over Zobrist in the outfield...that's pretty minor though.

Having Almora, Bote, Happ, Russell, LaStella, and Zobrist or Schwarber coming off the bench when Bryant comes back is a veritable embarrassment of riches.

I never would have thought Baez would 30 homers.. He's a lock to hit 32 plus..what a season.
