Paying at the register is not quicker in any way. Have you ever used a credit card at a gas station? You pay at the pump.

So now I am to assume that the people paying cash do not have bank accounts because it is too much time to actually deposit money? Do you have a bank account?

When I'm waiting for a pump, I want the people castrated and flung from the tallest building. When I'm pumping gas and realize I need to get a soda or sandwich...then I fall back on the standard 'I'm getting gas here, I have a right...nay a RESPONSIBILITY, to patronize this service station with additional revenue'.

I find that if the pumps are bumper to bumper then the spots are usually taken as well.

when card machines at the pump didn't ask you a thousand questions just to pump your gas (no i don't have a rewards card, no i don't want a car wash, no i don't want a receipt), it was a lot quicker to just use your card to pay.

i never use cash at the pump because it seems like every time i walk into a gas station, there's a line of lotto grabbers. but, if those assholes aren't there, it shouldn't take more than a minute to declare what you want at the pump and hand over the cash.

the only thing i agree with is bashing people who *aren't* getting gas that are still parked in front of a pump, just to buy a soda. there are grocery stores for that too.

Well in reality you are a separate kind of dumb to buy a cold drink at the gas station. Do you not know the mark up?

I will say I'm spoiled by Costco. Credit card only there. I guess all the drug dealers and strippers will have to avoid there because of the huge amount of work it is to have a credit or debit card with enough money to cover $30-$60.

I think maybe the disconnect here is you thinking Costco and a gas station are used for similar purposes.

Can you explain further? Costco sells goods and has gas pumps. When people are pumping gas, they park at the pump, and when they are buying goods, they park in the parking spaces. Shouldn't the same logic apply for gas stations? If you want to go buy goods at a gas station then go park in the parking spots.

Sure. Gas stations are inherently convenience stores, and Costco is not. Therefore, gas stations are much more conducive to people who pay with cash than Costco would be.

This. I guess Maker of Boilers doesn't know the joy of cash that found it's way into his wallet and then starts burning a hole. I've never really gone out of my way putting cash in my wallet. It just shows up there now and again. Fill up my tank without touching my bank funds? Count me in cuz it feels like I just got free gas.

It would be a credit card and it's really fast. The whole transaction takes the same amount of time as it would take to count the coins you get back.

Also screw you if you park in front of the only diesel pump if you’re not getting diesel (assuming there are other open pumps).

Gas pumps are great places for a card skimming device.

If you have to put the chip in the reader, enter no for cash back, enter to confirm the total, enter your PIN, then wait for the receipt to print, it is nowhere near faster than paying with a $5 or $10 bill and having the clerk give your paper money back. MANY gas stations nowadays have the automatic coin dispenser which takes all of two seconds to dispense.

That may be true for debit cards but it's not for credit cards. Most of the time I don't even have to sign a credit card now.

But, let's say it is true, and debit card people in front of you slow you down. That is all the more reason to just pay with a credit card at the pump.

It can be hard for poor people to get no fee credit cards and sometimes debit cards. That is why I gave them an exemption here.
