Here is a link to an article I wrote about Dan McNeil, muskie fisherman and afternoon drive time host on AM-670 The Score.
It's in Friday's Northwest Herald.

Take note, fuckhead MHSPBGLHLG.

On my last vacation I was in a boat for over 8 hours for 5 of 6 days. The only reason it wasn't 6 of 6 days was that high winds made us come in early one day.

I don't golf but I can imagine designing a vacation around it.

you are mixing up things

I have camped with my boys for scouts.

I have gone to a professional convention in Bloomington to which I brought my family.

Neither is a planned vacation. Try again

I wouldn't do that either. Closest I would come to a golf vacation is going with friends for a weekend where golf was a vehicle for drinking

Nice! I'm more of a salt water fisherman, but I've been meaning to head up North for the big Northern Pike. Muskie fishing just seems so slow...I'm willing to give it a shot.

Steve, out of respect to you I read an article on fishing. You did a great job capturing Dan's love for the sport. I have fished and drank beer in a boat a few times with friends. I went up to Lake Bemidji(?),Minnesota a long time ago. I enjoyed the camaraderie, the small town America vibe and sitting on a boat drinking beer part of the trip. I did not like the fishing part but I can see why others would.

I am always happy to catch a Muskie as an afterthought fishing for Pike and Walleye. Way too much time between fish when you throw the big stuff for big ones only.

On time though I did have a blast Muskie fishing. We went to a remote fly in lake from a resort on Eagle Lake oddly enough for a day of Muskie fishing. What is common up there was this was basically a Muskie only lake and no one had been there for a couple days and we were the only ones there. Like throw in a lure and catch one no shit. Must have caught more than 20 that day myself. The problem was in a lake like that they get stunted and not very large as there isn't enough food fish.

I have family up there on Big Turtle Lake. We used to head up and fish for Northern at the opening of fishing season. That was a blast. Drinking Special Export out of returnable bottles, playing cribbage at night against my 85 yo uncle and my dad, drinking CC and Canada Dry ginger ale. Sauna, lathering up and diving into the 45 degree lake. Good times.

One year, without my dad, we ate some mushrooms and headed out to catch some sun and some fish. Heavenly day.

I used to golf a lot before I messed up my shoulder and got even fatter (independent events), and I'd definitely plan trips around playing golf somewhere gorgeous with difficult courses, like Western Canada.

I haven't played a round in seven years as i put that money into other priorities, but I get the idea of why Dan goes back over and over again. I was really tempted to buy a condo in eastern BC in the early 2000s (when the C$ was at rock bottom) to have a summer golfing base, and only the lack of a non-stop flight from Chicago to Kelowna stopped me.

Heading up in the Spring, right as school was letting out and season was opening, the fish are voracious...at least the small to medium ones are. We have had days with nearly constant action...on one of my dad's last days out, he, my brother and myself landed over 150 northern pike...I think my dad had 75 of those. Fuck, it just got real dusty in here.

Steve, somewhat related since I moved here I cannot make such a long trip to Western Ontario. If you know of similar Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec places above NY State let me know.

Well done, SS. Good to see your talent appreciated and complimented.

There is a ton of good quality print media out there.

I have MANY friends in the newspaper biz and Shaw Media.

Support your local paper, guys. Whatever it is.
