Pace would just pick to players who would be injured their rookie season and then possibly modestly contribute over the next several seasons anyways!

Of course, now they have to pay him Aaron Donald money.

they literally do not have a draft next year

BUT

their linebacker corps is retarded. mack-trevathan-smith-floyd with kwiatkowski off the bench. the dl in front of it is pretty fucking good too.

the bears are impossible to block.

Khalil Mack is one of the 3 or so best players in football and he is in the heart of his prime.

Biggest trade in all Chicago sports since then.

Yes, bigger than Quintana.

This should also help the offense by improving the ratio of "Bears start inside their own 20" to "Bears start between their own 21 and their own 49." The biggest challenge I see with Mitch right now is his ability to sustain longer drives. Taking 4-5 plays off of potential drives is really important.

I'm thinking Trevathan or Kwiatkowski will be going back to the Raiders.

No doubt about it. It takes a shit load of pressure off of him.

The thing the Bears needed desperately was just a bonafide star. Allen Robinson, Howard, Hicks, Trevathan etc...they have a lot of guys who are in that grey area, kinda like "pro bowl alternates" tier. Its nice to have as many guys who fit that mold as the Bears have, but you need a monster. Now they have the monster and everyone's life is about to get much much easier.

The folks at NBC and ESPN must be shitting their pants in excitement over having Mack fall into prime time for the first two weeks of the season.

With two firsts (which is shocking to me that was the price) already gone the Bears really dont need to be giving up anything more. I wont complain if one of those two is headed back, I'd almost rather it be Trevathan, but its not necessary. Hardly a reason to hate the trade though. Mack transforms the Bears.

The asking price was 2 firsts and a player. We will see if that’s what the deal is.

I can't believe that they pulled this off. This is the exact opposite of the Herschel Walker deal. The staggering stupidity of the Raiders deserves to doom that idiot franchise to a decade plus of failure.

Gruden doesn't give a shit about defensive players, which is why i think the player in return will be from the offense.

Keep in mind we are sending the 32nd pick in the next 2 drafts back. He is a steal at that price.

Singletary don't belong with those 3 stars.

This moves the Bears up to the 7-9/9-7 range. This is a move you make when you're one player away. This is not a move you make when you're as bad as the Bears. The Bears need bodies. Their offensive line is not great, I still don't think they've solved the receiver problem, and I think (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky's ceiling is as an average starter.

This is just unwarranted pessimism that is admittedly within the realm of possibility but nowhere near the likely situation.

Their OL is decent. Long-term they have some worry though.
The WR were fixed comprehensively. They added three starter-caliber players at WR and another starter caliber player at TE. Robinson and Miller could be huge.
Blah blah (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky sucks I know all about QB's blah blah

If the Bears included Howard I may have to reconsider my excitement.

And you know even if the offense does suck their defense is probably top-3 now. So welcome back to the Lovie years, which after these dark ages is a very welcome return for any fan. Bears want to play grind it out defensive football 16 games a year? Fine. I eat that shit up. I love it when teams, even if they think they can beat the Bears, really dont want to go through the trouble of playing them.

No word that he's the "plus" and if he were I think it'd be reported by now. Howard would be the centerpiece of such a trade.

*obviously centerpiece on the Bears end

Rubbish. He's in the Hall of Fame for a reason.

Much like Theo acquired Hamels to correct the Darvish/Chatwood mistake, Pace has covered his Floyd pick.

It is interesting coming from a guy who said you have to build through the draft.

I agree with this except I think (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky has a higher ceiling. Like with the Cutler trade the timing just isn't quite right.

Yeah, bad timing getting one of the top players in football. Get the hell out of here. When a player like this becomes available, you grab him. You want the Bears to win? Well this is what they need to do.

Anyone who believes they could've done more to solve the receiver problem than what they wound up doing is just being obstinate. More of that shitty impossible-to-please Bears attitude that ran Lovie out of town.

The Bears have completely remade their roster this offseason. Whatever expectations you could have reasonably had for them to improve themselves have been totally shattered. This Mack trade pushes it over the top for even the most demanding fan. They fucked up the Meredith situation, that's about the only thing you can get after them for. But that error pales in comparison to acquiring Mack and Robinson, not to mention the guys they drafted and host of other free agents they brought in.
