These guys are upper management material. You can't have enough people willing to enrich themselves to the detriment of the poor.

They went through $400K in 10 months?

https://www.gofundme.com/hvv4r-paying-it-forward

They should hire an agent and shop their story to Netflix, Hulu, Amz et al. Course, Hollywood could do what they did with the Pennsylvania pizza bomber and '30 Minutes of Less' and make the film without paying for the rights. Although I think everyone involved in the pizza bomb situation was already 6 feet under by the time the film came out.

They need to start another GoFundMe to raise money to cover the missing $400K:

A lawyer for Johnny Bobbitt, the homeless man whose kindness to a stranger inspired a $400,000 GoFundMe campaign, said Tuesday that all of the money raised for his client is gone.

Chris Fallon said he learned of the missing money in a conference call Tuesday morning with lawyers for Kate McClure and Mark D'Amico, the Burlington County couple accused of mismanaging the money raised for Bobbitt.

"It completely shocked me when I heard," said Fallon. "It came as a complete surprise to me."

Word of the missing funds came on the same day Bobbitt's lawyers asked a judge to impose sanctions on the couple after the pair missed a court-ordered deadline to hand over the remaining GoFundMe money. Bobbitt hired a legal team after becoming concerned that the couple had squandered much of the money raised to help him get off the streets. He said they denied him access to the funds while spending money on expensive vacations and a new BMW.

I'd imagine the IRS is going to want to collect taxes on $400,000 of undeclared income.

Sounds like someone needs to start a gofundme for the poor guy.

They probably get away with the scamming the bum, because at the end of the day he's a drug addict bum who doesn't deserve that kind of money anyways. Not saying he should suffer needlessly but $400,000? Come on. There are working families in this country that deserve that way more than him.

But the IRS is gonna take em to poundtown. Ogie couldn't be more right about that. They are gonna be slaves to the Feds for a long time.

It is interesting that the IRA and other law entities will start to get on this Go Fund Me stuff. Watch out JDC.

I'm just waiting for the inevitable whining sound bites from these millennial dopes complaining that they did nothing wrong and shouldn't be going to prison.

So far, the IRS has let most gofundme type donations go untaxed to the receiver under the gift tax exclusion. If someone "gifts" more than about $15K to a single individual, the giver of the gift needs to file a gift tax return and pay taxes on the gift over the exclusion amt.

I'd guess that the instance of fraud in this case would knock it out of the gift tax exclusion and make it ordinary taxable income for the malfeasant millennials.

Sounds like this guy is the second most famous man named John Bobbitt.

They wont go to prison over this. Non-violent offense and their lawyer will claim that any middle class person who had an almost half-million dollar windfall would struggle to not keep it for themselves. Blowing it as ostentatiously as they did will look bad but ultimately will be excused by their youth. It's also two people, which complicates things significantly. The IRS would rather put someone in white slavery than the slammer.

They'll be ordered to pay some restitution and sell all the tangible items they bought with the money. This drug addict bum is not entitled to shit.

The court should award him the BMW. Then he can start driving for Uber and scamming people out of $5.

Hopefully people will learn to give money to actual charities and not on-line "feel good" stories.

"The entire campaign was predicated on a lie," said Scott Coffina, the prosecutor in Burlington County, New Jersey, at a news conference, adding that less than an hour after the campaign went live, McClure texted a friend.

"'OK, so wait, the gas part is completely made up, but the guy isn't,'" Coffina said, reading McClure's text. "'I had to make something up to make people feel bad, so shush about the made-up stuff.'"

Dayum, they even arrested homeless Johnny Bobbitt, who looks less homeless than the boyfriend:

Additionally, the pair withdrew over $85,000 in cash from ATMs at or near casinos ranging from Atlantic City to Las Vegas.

The couple turned themselves in to authorities Wednesday, while Bobbitt was arrested in Philadelphia.

All three are charged with conspiracy and theft by deception.

D’Amico and McClure were processed and released late Wednesday, while Bobbitt is awaiting extradition to New Jersey.

All donors who contributed to the campaign will be refunded by GoFundMe, the company announced Thursday.
