Yeah it is what it is. People seem to always take the players side no matter what though. Even when a guy is guaranteed 15 million dollars for the coming season.

I get it.

I understand that in the very narrow context of professional sports a person can make $12 million dollars a year, say they are underpaid, and have a legitimate point even though it sounds ludicrous to a "regular" person. I never cared how much players made. If 70,000 people paid to watch in person and a TV station paid billions for the rights to televise you do your job you'd make that much, too.

Again, I get it.

But as I've gotten older and crabbier and the numbers involved have gotten harder and harder for me to wrap my head around I find it increasingly difficult to side with a guy holding out for more money -- even if he has a legitimate point in the very narrow context of the NFL -- who has already made $30 million dollars before the age of 27. If owners "held out" or complained as frequently or as publicly about money as much as the players I would feel the same way about them, but that rarely happens. Football is my favorite sport and the only one I still follow relatively closely, and while I never thought it would when I was younger things like this do diminish my interest to a degree.

You dont understand, Bell has to make that 30 million he's already made, plus the other 30 ( minimum) he will get last his entire life!! He's out of football in 5 years or so with a broken and bruised body!! Pass the hat for this poor fella please.

Le’Veon Bell’s agent has spoken with enough teams, I’m sure, to know what Bell’s worth would be on the open market in ‘19.

Rising cap + lots of AFC teams with money (Jets, Colts, Texans) plus all three AFC North teams would be in the mix.

They believe they can make up $10M.

Baltimore in particular, in a post-Flacco world, would be intriguing with Lamar Jackson and Bell.

But for him to get a new deal, he needs to be healthy. So I’d say there’s a good chance Bell doesn’t report until week 11, as it’s the financially prudent thing to do.

My guess is he’ll get at least $40M guaranteed on a new deal on the open market, and close to $50M in cash over the first three years.

Someone gonna pay that man Bob.

Teams are going to be more willing if he doesn't have 400 carries this year too. The Steelers would run him into the ground knowing he is leaving.

Good call by Football Perspective already crowning Jackson but not recognizing the emergence of Collins as a RB

I like Collins but he's a very unknown commodity at this point.

But the Steelers(& each other team) brass will be picking up what, a quarter billion dollar check next week? And we're only supposed to see Bell as greedy?

What is the dollar amount level where you should stop worrying about being paid in accordance with how well you do your job vs. others in your field?

and they needed less good tape than Collins has established to fantasize about a Jackson/Bell backfield.

The guaranteed money was pretty low. It was basically an extra $7 million guaranteed but locking him in for 3 extra years after this one.

Seem to remember that Kaep opted out of a sizable contract thinking he would strike it rich on the open market.

Bell turned down 3years/$47m with $20m guaranteed. I am not sure he beats that number as a free agent, unless he just owns with the Steelers.

So if he plays like he usually does he will beat it? Agreed.

I don't think it's a coincidence it came out that he's coming back a couple weeks before necessary right after they noticeably missed him in a home game against Baltimore. I think him and the team came to an understanding and he's gonna dominate again.

20m guaranteed from a team that had to pay him 1 year 15 million doesn’t sound so great. I tend to side with players on most things.

The team is free to franchise the player, but don’t think for a second he has to accept that. He is playing the same game they are. It’s just they lose games when he doesn’t flinch. Him losing money costs the team nothing.

He is showing he doesn’t have to accept that franchise tag until week 10. Both sides negotiate these deals. He hasn’t signed shit.
