Nas, for some reason I thought about this thread this morning and was curious how the dog thing ended up working out for you.
Have the kids been helpful and taking care of it? Has it been easier or harder than you expected? Overall are you happy you
did it and went with the breed you did?

I was kinda hoping this thread was never bump.

Perfect breed and perfect dog. The advice I got from MANY of you all was great. Especially the advice from Leash when it came to him not eating until I said a certain word. He was pretty much potty trained when he came home from the breeder so that made life so much easier.

Unfortunately Titan is no longer with us. Last school year Lady Nas and my kids went to different schools. I left out at 6 to take mine and she left at about 8 to take hers. I was usually back home before 8:30. One day I sat in the car for an extra 10 mins listening to the end of a podcast Hood had sent me. When I walked in the door I smelled shit. That was unusual because Titan would go on the scent gel pads if I wasn't in the house to take him out (because no one else did) and it didn't leave a smell. I walked to his bed area and found him with a crouton bag over his head that someone accidentally left out. I picked him up and rushed him to a nearby veterinarian. They were able to revive him but said he was brain dead.

Needless to say I and pretty much everyone else was devastated. While I didn't have him for years like most people have their dogs he made a huge impact on all of our lives. He couldn't sleep without an article of my clothing in his bed and he woke me up within 5 minutes of the same time every morning. The play time outside with him and my sons was something that I looked forward to every day. It became our thing. He and my baby son would often be seen doing the exact same things. It was like they were the same person.

I cleaned up the house and removed all of Titan's things before the baby came back home. He went looking for Titan and knew something was missing but he couldn't figure out what it was. The vet had put Titan in a box for me to bury him and the baby was attracted to the box until I buried Titan. It was almost like he knew who was inside. We have a picture up in the house of Titan and pretty much every day the baby points to it and lights up and tries to say his name.

I kick myself for sitting in the car when I could have finished the podcast in the house. I'm not sure if it would have made a difference but I believe that his eyes were still moving when I removed the bag so that tells me that extra 10 minutes was critical. The same morning Lady Nas had asked me if it was okay for him to ride in the car with her and I told her I didn't think it was a good idea because he didn't listen to her and she was kinda scared of him.

I had pet insurance but I am not sure how useful it was. I don't even want to mention what I spent on emergency care. Didn't know they make you pay for it and then you have to wait for the insurance company to reimburse you about 20% of your out of pocket cost.

We have a 4-year old we adopted, and he's become my little buddy. I keep telling the wife (who has a few cognitive issues) that we need to ensure wrappers and such are picked up/thrown away. Maybe your story will reinforce this.

Very sorry I bumped this Nas. I had no idea. Just realized I hadn't seen much on Facebook with pictures of the dog and it jogged my
memory. That had to be a horrible experience for you. Don't beat yourself up about that 10 minutes or any of the other second guessing.
Unfortunately these things happen in our lives, and I for one am really glad that you are able to remember some of those good times.

my buddy had a 3 yr old boxer who was probably the most amazing dog i'd ever seen. it was just fantastic. was so obedient, so good with the kids, like it was the dog that ticked all the "perfect dog" check boxes.

It walked into the living room one night when they were watching tv. look at them all and then just flopped down and died in front of them. it had a massive heart attack.

devastated that family.

That is really sad to read Nas, sorry you went through that. What a terrible ordeal.

What a shocking development that someone so ill equipped to have a dog ended up killing it. Good work.

Anyone with any sense would realize that needing to ask a group of buffoons on a message board about how to take care of a dog would have the self awareness not to own a dog, but then again you admitted to voting for Trump.

RIP dog. It should have been Nas' head in the crouton bag.

Years ago, we lost our Bichon to pancreatitis. Long sad story short... don't let your dog eat anything except dog specific foodstuffs.

Whether by accident or design, sorry for your loss Nas, don't feed your dog table/people food. Our vet said it is the worst thing you can do. She says they are always sure to lose 3 to 7 dogs after Thanksgiving due to over indulgence. Ham is the worst.

And to think that I was going to text my oldest today to send his Rottweiler back up here for a vacation. I couldn't handle having a dog long term, but for a short while every so often, cool.
