I don't think getting constant MRI's is the greatest thing for the rest of your body. I always thought it would be cool to have these guys do their bullpens in reflective suits for 3d cameras to pick up so that you can have a biomechanical analysis of them on file that is updated weekly. You would have to find something useful to do with that information. Once enough data is collected over multiple pitchers you should be able to see trends and possibly shut guys down and fix their mechanics. Then again you have to weigh a guy missing time and fixing his shit to going balls to the wall until it blows and then missing a year before repeating.

Guys could also stop doing this weighted ball and max throwing bullshit.

1993

What a terrific Sox team.

I'll never forget attending game 1 of the 1993 ALCS; the scoreboard lit up twice in the pregame and that was it cuz black jack McDowell was thoroughly beaten from the get go, the Sox had no chance against the blue jays all game and THEN as you're leaving the park you hear people talking about Michael Jordan retiring and you're like "no way" until you get to the car and turn on the radio and it's like "oh shit" and then that's multiplied when you saw "bye Mike" or whatever on the Sears Tower during your drive home.

But hey, at least they were coming back strong in 1994 where they were fated to be on a collision course with the Montreal Expos in the world series =P

Don’t forget about the fucking dope who put in back in the game after a 45 minute rain delay. What purpose did that serve?

Exactly! Anything over 20-25min should be pulled.

He wasnt the first and he wont be the last pitcher to go back into the game after a 45min delay.

Yes, but you don't put your prized phenom pitcher back in the game after a 45 minute delay, in a meaningless game, in a lost season.

I don't necessarily disagree, but I also don't think his UCL was torn during that delay. I think there were other factors and this probably would have happened regardless.

Well, they’re saying he’ll be ready for spring training in 2020, and he’ll still be only 23 years old at that point, so I’m not too depressed. Cease and Dunning will be up to pay their dues next season. 2020 is still a decent bet for wild card contention.

The damage was already done in AAA by all reports.

I don't think the clock started because he didn't pitch 50 innings and because he was called up less than 15 days before the September roster expansion.

Glossary / Transactions / Service Time
Service Time
Definition

Players receive Major League service time for each day spent on the 25-man roster or the Major League disabled list. Important to players and clubs alike, service time is used to determine when players are eligible for arbitration as well as free agency.

I don't think anyone would want that. Every pitcher has wear and tear in their elbows and shoulders. A pitcher could feel normal then get a checkup and the Dr could say "oh my god that looks terrible you can't pitch like that" and recommend surgery. Who knows he could have pitched another 5 years like that. No one wants to actively seek out to have surgery.

That’s the point though. You have a baseline for wear and tear. After a month they see fluid or the ligaments degrading they can shut down for a bit. They can heal if you haven’t ripped to shreds.

Ok but what happens when over half the pitchers in baseball are shut down because of wear and tear? More position players pitching!!!

listening to Murph and Fred right now and Fred has an interesting take.

Says that ppl trashing Yu Darvish for saying his arm is not feeling good and not trying to come back but now that may be the right thing to do. Whereas Kopech said something didn't feel right during warmups but still pitched.

Darvish had TJ, he should know if it is that.
