It is my preference that they retain the division crown, but making the playoffs in any manner gives them a chance at another title.

Lmao you dumb motherfucker.

The tie breaker is a game, moron. :x

Which means they basically still lead the division by 2 games even after tonight's loss dumb fuck.

Yes there is. If both teams wind up with identical records the head to head record will give the Cubs the division title.

well back on topic.

these guys will be playing like 30 days in a row.

it's more mental than physical but it's late in the season so i'm sure it's physical as well.

the problem with these guys not being tired but not showing up when they should. like this series, monday and wednesday it felt like they weren't even trying to win the game. tuesday on the game they did win you could see the effort. on the game they lost, especially monday they weren't really into the game.

Mlb.com, bitch:

Tiebreak Scenarios

Two-Club Tie for Division Championship (Losing team does not qualify for Wild Card):
One tiebreak game will be played to determine the Division Champion. Home field advantage will be determined by the rules above for a two-team tiebreaker.

Two-Club Tie for Division Championship and Wild Card:
One tiebreak game will be played to determine the Division Champion. The loser of the game will be declared a Wild Card. Home field advantage will be determined by the rules above for a two-team tiebreaker.

no i think you may be confused w/ an older rule they put in the 90s. back then if you tied for the division they had some bullshit tie breaker rule to determine the winner. I remember the Dodgers won the division like in 97/98 w/ this rule and it was bullshit.

but now its no longer the rule if i recall correclty. even if the division leaders tie at the end of the year, they play 163 to determine the winner.

I hope the Cubs have to play a game 163, lose that and then have to play a wild card pitched by Kershaw

Kershaw has 9 quality starts in 24 post season chances. I believe it all evens out eventually but that is crazy.

He'll always have a special place in my heart for playing a big role in the Pennant winner at Wrigley!

Their window started with Arietta and a wild card game against Pittsburgh. It might as well close with another wild card game this year.

That core has had a disappointing year. Wonder if this is who they are going forward as they are going to get expensive soon. What kind of odds could you have gotten in Vegas that Narvaez would have an OPS+ of 115 to Contreras' 97

Don't get me wrong. You can open another window next year or two. I am just using a small definition for this current class. The Lester window if you will.

Half of them have. Rizzo, Baez, Almora and Q are about what you expect/want.

I think people got a little over excited on Contreras. He's a good defensive catcher who will hit about 15-20 Homers, not an MVP type.

on the other hand Baez is probably not going to be this good every year.

I think Bryant and Rizzo are going to perennial 30 homer, 100 rbi guys. Baez is a very valuable player. The rest are what they are.

Hendricks is the one im not sure about.

This was implemented with the second wild card. When it was one wild card, if two teams tied for a division and the "loser" was the wild card, then all that mattered was seeding as both teams were going to qualify into a best-of-5, so in those days they didn't bother playing game 163.

Everyone said they just have to go .500 and they would beat the Brewers even if the Brewers went like .750

Now everyone is worried and shit pantsing.

I don't think ending up as a wild card team, at the worst, is choking.

The window for winning the NL pennant is still WIDE open. This team is better than the Dodgers when healthy.

The window for being a World Series champion may be closed. The Cubs are going to pay (literally and figuratively) for not developing strong starting pitchers the past three years.

If they blow this and his name wasn't theo epstein he would have been launched for the worst off season acquisitions this year.
