I thought he was supposed to be back this series. There are some serious communication of information issues with this cubs medical staff and front office this year. The way they handled Darvish this year was atrocious. They made him look like an asshole all year and it was because they couldn't accurately diagnose him.

All teams do this to vilify the players: look at how Corey Crawford is always "supposed to be ready" so that if he's not, it's his fault.

$10.5m a year for Mr Morrow. Who wouldn't be villified for that price?

Wow. That's a huge swing and miss. Morrow, Chatwood and Darvish. It's like they signed no free agents.

This is really bad.

How deep can they really go missing on that much pitchingast offseason?

I think we all kinda expected this but I'm pissed that as early as today they made it seem like he was back.

He wouldn't be eligible for the post season, but I'd like to see Theo go get Sergio Romo from the Rays for the last week of the season, with Morrow moving to the 60-day DL. Not that he'd close, but at least you'd have another option for 2-3 batters in the 7th since Carl Edwards is a fuck up. Romo is a free agent at the end of the season, so all it should take is "a PTBNL or cash considerations."

Wouldn't Romo then be eligible for the postseason as an injury replacement for Morrow?

No, he has to be in the organization (but not necessarily the 25-man) by the end of the day on August 31. But they could put Anthony Bass, for example, on the playoff roster.

Look , Theo gets a lifetime fucking pass because #2016 but signing those 3 may be the worst one season group of free agents ever signed by one team. I don't care that maybe theyll be ok a year or 2 from now. This team is built to win NOW and that door can close pretty fucking fast. The pennant is ripe for taking THIS year and then take your chances in the WS. Who the fuck knows when or if you'll get back there or have this chance again. Just terrible.

Okay, it's never been quite clear. I thought September trades could be used as injury replacements, not just farmhands who were short of the 40-man roster. Maybe it changed in the last CBA.

We'll just have to do what the Cardinals do and have some random dude start doing the job like he's been doing it all his life.

i don't know that morrow was his fault but darvish and chatwood had definite red flags and not just because of injury. that's a pretty cold craps table there. and it's full of crap (hey hey).

I'm worrying we are seeing a Braves like scenario playing out. One and done.

Has to be one of the worst off seasons in MLB history.

A Braves scenario is always possible. Were people shielding themselves from thinking this?

Then Theo and Co. better be open to breaking up the "core".

Happ and Schwarber first off. They should have been traded before this year.

Strop was doing good as the closer. Just hold the fort until he is ready for the playoffs.

I thought his issue was a biceps strain. Now they're saying he has bone bruise that will take four months to heal. WTF?

Morrow wasn’t going to be healthy all season, that’s just who he is. The roll of the dice was hoping he would be healthy for the playoffs, didn’t happen.

The "Braves scenario" is a world championship and five pennants. The horror! Shield thyself!
