are cubbie fans really sweating a three game lead with thirteen to play as much as it sounds like on the radio?
They are virtually assured of making the playoffs
Nah.. We firmly believe the Cubs will win the division.. The problem is the bats are ice cold and the pen is over worked.. I wouldn't be surprised to see em lose first round.
Sure, but this team has never really been the juggernaut it is popularly portrayed to be. Pretty much every playoff series over the past 3+ years has been open for a loss.
They lose their high priced free agent pitcher (who I didn't want, but still a guy they were counting on).
They lose their MVP 3rd baseman, with 2 stints on the DL.
They lose their closer just after the All Star break, for the remainder of the season.
They lose their set-up man (who had become the closer) with 3 weeks left in the season, for the remainder of the regular season.
They had their starting SS on the DL for a month.
They wind up having (partly due to rain-outs) to play 30 games in 30 days down the stretch.
Yet you expect the team to be a juggernaut? Despite all the challenges (along with Chatwood just being awful and being dropped from the rotation) they have had, the Cubs have the best record in the league and will enjoy home field advantage till the World Series, should they get that far. I think they have done exceptionally well, given all the challenges they have had to deal with.
