I could see giving Caratini the start today with Contreras resting. I could also see Addison Russell starting and Zobrist getting a day off and maybe Heyward in RF with Almora in CF with Bryant in LF and Bode at 3B and Baez at SS. That would be good.

Why does Willy continue to get blown away by mid to low 90's 4 seamers that are in the mid to upper portion of the strike zone. These are pitches you should be crushing and he isn't even fouling them off.

Cy Ray has thrown alot of pitches, Hamels has not and the Dbacks pen is crap. They could easily put his pitch count through the roof and get right back into this thing if people weren't swinging at his junk (Bryant).

I thought they would come back but after that 3rd inning where Rey struck out Almora / Bryant /Rizzo and made them look bad, not sure now.

Missed the first so not sure what happened w/ Hamels. But seems like he's calmed down.

I thought they were on pace to at least burn up Ray by the 5th but a bunch of strikeouts ended that hope. Its still only 4 runs but they have another inning of Ray at least and they have an entire 1 hit so far. I can not say enough bad things about Willy's at bats. He is so lost he will never be found again. The called 3rds on Rizzo and Bryant though.....very generous calls. Both were well outside the zone.

I really don't think the Cubs' minds are on the game right now considering this game is the end of that grueling stretch of baseball they've been on without a scheduled off day.

I can't fault them for swinging at everything trying to get the game over as fast as possible.

Already won the series, but with Goldschmidt, Pollock and Peralta out of this lineup and Hamels starting for the Cubs, a sweep seemed like a realistic possibility. But again, 2 out of 3 ain't bad and it's not quite over yet. Maybe they can put together another epic come back.

Didn't waste my time with this game last night. Had a feeling they wouldn't show up since they had already won the series, and had the off day today. It's just sad they checked out before the game had started.

It was Cole Hamels and he got hit hard. Left a lot of pitches out over the plate on a tee and they didn't miss them. If he wants the Cubs to pick up his option or negotiate an extension, he best not have more like that one.
