I was comparing it to the Florida case where the sheriff refused to arrest. Apparently that guy was eventually arrested for manslaughter.

But stand your ground doesn't require you to be on your property, just you feared great bodily harm and you are under no obligation to retreat. I freely admit I don't know the legal side of it.

The guy they shot was clearly off. If they were at the mattress first and he approached all crazy, apparently wasn't the first time they have had a run in with him. Old guy was already packing and he pulled out when the guy started screaming at them. We don't know how it started, but that seems feasible defense to me.
