I'll bet that fan would have caught the liner off Rizzo's glove that tied the game.

There were better ways to handle the pen but dumbass had to play his matchups and of course make Carl feel good about himself by giving him another chance. You let Q bat and start the next inning. He gets 1 baserunner and then he is gone. She Shack comes in and finishes that inning and the next. Now you are throw 7. Let Wilson have the 8th and Chavez finishes it off. If by chance you still have a 4 run lead in the 9th you can probably throw De La Rosa instead and save Chavez.

I don't see where Edwards v. anybody is a favorable matchup for the Cubs.

I know. It just gets so old seeing "matchups" getting played that end up horribly. How many times does it have to blow up in your face before you finally admit what everyone else can see?

I'm ready for Joe to go to Anaheim when the Angels launch Scioscia. Let him out of the last year of his contract, vaya con dios. And he can take Edwards with him.

Going to the postseason 4 straight times is kind of hard. They should enjoy tonight.

They should do something to ease the stress.

These guys are wound tighter than HawaiiYou. This is probably what they need to relax a bit.

See I don’t think they are wound tight at all. This is essentially the same group that’s been to the playoffs 3 straight years , won a WS after a late inning collapse but the heat of omg the Milwaukee fucking Brewers is going to make them sweat ? They’ve lost their 2 best bullpen arms and the 3rd best can’t get anyone out right now . The offense is in a collective slump . I still think they win the division and make the NLCS .

wilson and edwards are both junk at this point. wilson had a chance to close it out and did what he's been known to do as a cub as well, and fuck it up. this should've been an easy 6-2 win. maybe 6-3 at worst.

i think the cardinals are getting all their suck out against the brewers. but at least the series is in chicago.

This is kind of where Im at. I do think they are probably a little tight right now, but agree with the rest.

It was looking bad for me on our Q bet but that one looks to end in a wash. Thanks Joe!

Maybe more credit is due to the team Theo put together and less to Joe who managed it. Like Joe Torre managing the Yankees.

Lester off to a terrible start in a must-win game, always a great sign.

I'm a baseball idiot, but didn't Baez go on his best run in the 2 spot? Maddon keeps talking about having his best hitter high in the lineup to get more at-bats and then puts him in the 5 spot.

Why does Cervelli hovering around just above sucking all year and then turn into a silver slugger vs the Cubs? He has to be hitting .400 against them.

He's playing the matchups!! He wants a right handed bat between Rizzo and Schwarber. Like all of his strategical baseball moves it doesn't make any sense.

Card-carrying member of the Austin Kearns Society.

Really looks unwise to have taken Quintana out after 76 through five now that Lester might hit 76 through two. Makes me think about Joe Maddon's attitude toward domestic abuse.

You really are spot on with your comments about Maddon's managing strategy. Actually, Baez was 4 and not 5 spot. but still. I just would like to see a stretch of two months to see what would happen with consistency in the lineup 4 or 5 of the 7 days.

Sometimes he starts out like this and then settles down for 4-5 innings. Just have to hope it's one of those nights and he gets locked in.

Yeah, but in his defense I never thought he was going to be at this level by the end of the regular season. If the bullpen wasn't so scary right now, you could pull Lester as soon as lets up 2 or 3. And, of course, you never know if the offense is actually going to score a run either.

Jesus, I read this and went to MLB.com and thought they were down 3. It's still 0 fucking 0.

It's Lester's last start of the regular season. He can go 110-115 pitches if needed. They have Q to be able to pitch on short rest on Sunday if things get really dire. Win the division, and Lester can essentially skip a turn.

Bote confuses the hell out of me. 95% of the time, he looks clueless at the plate. 5% of the time, usually in the clutch, he's like fucking Bill Madlock.
