However, please take the ball out of his hand and make him an assistant coach somewhere in your system if you value him that much.

Ugh... you were right on the money about the Siera Santos thing, Cashman. However, I hope this one is a swing and a miss - no offense.

I did see him throw the ball to the dugout after the first pitch of his 200th inning the other night. A souvenir to put on the mantle I suppose. Offhand, I don't recall how many consecutive 200+ inning seasons he has but Stoney & Jason were talking about it.

This is an example of signing a pitcher for big money as he gets older into his career. The guy was a dominant pitcher but is just an old shell of what he once was. I also blame the Sox for giving this guy the ball for a team this bad. It is just bad management on their part. Let a young kid or kids go through his development working under Cooper.

I HOPE to god I am wrong. Just a gut feeling. If it were me, I would run Rodon, Gilito, Lopez, Adams, and Stephens, but I would bet money they won't have them both in the rotation. I kinda feel like they are going to fill the last 2 holes in FA.

There is no such thing as a "role" of a veteran on a pitching staff for a team as shitty as the Sox are. If you want to develop young pitchers, then develop them. It is crazy to dump Shields on the field. Let the young guys show their stuff and learn from their experience with Cooper mentoring them. That is what should have been done all year. They should have either traded him or just outright released him. He stinks right now.

I understand Hahn was the GM at the time, but the trade STUNK of Kenny Williams.

IT sure does and as far as I am concerned, Hahn has not justified a lot of the affection that many Sox fans shower on him. This management stinks starting with its owner. Williams is Reinny's token black guy to get the EOP folks off of his ass.

Was talking to a buddy about this subject this week... not just Ricky but Maddon as well.

However, it was more to the effect of which Chicago team will have the most interest/offer to Joe Girardi IF he was interested in coming back to town in a managerial role.

I know it is a big IF but Girardi's name came up.

I think both Northside & Southside teams are committed to their current managers to a certain extent.

Oddly enough, one would think Ricky has the most job security for the next two years what with the rebuild and all?

There are going to be good players available and they have lots of money to spend. They can’t roll this same crap out next year. They have to start upgrading this team.

This isn't a video game where you can just place a player on the roster and expect them to perform based on their ratings. Chemistry, experience, maturity all play a factor into the successful development of a young player. Cooper can talk to them, but he is not a player who can relate to their struggles in adjusting to the majors. Shields provided that and has pitched pretty decently as an innings eater. Was it a horrible trade because you gave up a top prospect and he sucked the previous years? Yes and blame that on the management for not realizing the level of pitcher they were getting.

You won't see Cease next year. No reason to bring him up. Jimenez will be on the team. No use on keeping him in the minors. They'll bring in another veteran pitcher to eat innings. Maybe they bring in an outfielder and 3rd baseman. Kopech getting hurt really screwed them for 19.
