Girardi is a pipedream. This team will never hire a real manager until Reinsdorf croaks.

Girardi is not a guy I would want handling the young guys. He gives off the vibe of liking veterans.

it appears through rankings that the team has a large group of relievers in the minors that are ready to make MLB debuts in 2019. You cannot block them with patchwork guys in what is likely to be another losing year.

There is no chance of a serious guy like Girardi giving this organization a second thought so nothing to worry about.

They will be stuck with Omar Vizquel and we can just recycle the older comments about Renteria from a few years ago: "speaks Spanish!" "Screwed over by his former team", "lots of energy and fresh perspective", "baseball guy", "good with youth", etc.

Is Kevan Smith a major league catcher? Seems like he has shown he can hit at this level. Combined with Narvaez, they seem to be fine offensively. I'm not sure if this catching combo can handle defensive work though.

Narvaez: WAR 1.9, BA .275, 9 HR, 30 RBI
K.Smith: WAR 0.5, BA .292, 3 HR 21 RBI
W.Castillo: WAR 0.7, BA .259, 6 HR 15 RBI

It will be interesting to see if they stick to the plan and continue down a road of patience. If they stick to the current plan, next year looks like another 90+ loss team, even with some improvement.

Realistically, if they don't supplement the major league roster with top level talent, they are at least 2 years away, maybe 3 years, from respectability and that's if some of these players pan out.

If that's really the case, then fuck this stupid team.

Stop with the bullshit. Bring the guys up who are ready and let's go. If they all struggle, at least it's together and learn how to play in the big leagues.

Hiring a name manager is irrelevant.

Omar Vizquel as manager and get some top flight coaches to teach these guys.

It's not blocking them as much as not relying on them to get all the big outs late in games. They can't go another year with worn out retreads like Chris Volstad, Bruce Rondon, Jeanmar Gomez, Thyago Viera, Rob Scahill, Gregory Infante, etc (my god I just threw up in my mouth typing those names). They have to get some guys who can consistently get outs in key situations and let those young guys develop rather than forcing them into those late inning roles.

I love AJ but in the booth. HE wouldn't last very long with the organization telling things to them that they wouldn't like to hear.

AJ isn't going to happen.
Given the state of the team right now...Ricky is fine for another year.

Would probably do the Sox some good to hire someone to manage that isn't a White Sox guy and actually has some experience managing baseball.

Did you misspell "Start"?

I think Maddon will have worn out his welcome everywhere when the Cubs are done with him. Ugh.

Maybe they can get Larry Himes to handle the draft this year. Then I'd feel comfortable with their chances of not screwing it up.

The Yankees are making Sonny Gray available. The Sox should get in on that action.

The Sox should offer James Shields $728,234 to have him opt out of his deal.

No serious modern organization is giving a thought to a guy like Girardi, so if and when he ever does manage again it's likely to be with some team like the White Sox that is stuck in the past.

If they are selling low, sure, why not. Probably be pretty good in our division

Obviously they have a shit ton lot of work to do. I don't expect them to get everything done in one off season but they have to start filling in the many holes on the roster with long term players. I expect Eloy will be up in April to man one of the corner OF spots and Zack Collins will be up in the summer to catch. I'm hopeful Cease will also be up in the summer. To do list:

1. Release Welington Castillo
2. Find long term 3B
3. Acquire two starting pitchers
4. Acquire 2-3 impact relievers
5. Make a decision about Abreu and Avi. Sign or trade them
6. Delmonico, Davidson and Palka are redundant players. Make a decision on who to keep and who to trade

Why is releasing Wellington Castillo the most important item on your off-season list?

Options 2-4 imply the team will try and contend season unless you're referring to 1 year rental types for the end of the rotation.

Do they really need to make any decisions on Abreu or Avi? Neither have much trade value. Garcia's injury plagued season doesn't make me want to give him long-term money either. Abreu's deal doesn't make to extend either given the position he plays and value.

Palka probably deserves more at bats, but I'm not overly optimistic he's nothing more than a .220 HR hitter ultimately.

It's hard to see how this team doesn't improve next season with some urgency from the front office. At the same time, it's very hard to see them as anything more than a 70-80 win team if things bring right.

That's probably not far off. The combination with Smith seemed to produce pretty good respectable numbers. Of course, the question will be if either will be able to do it again.

Thing with Palka, he could "run into" 15 HR and then hit 25 legit. I'm up for trying out the theory
