Last 11 "playoff" games - including the division playoff with the Brewers, here are their runs per game:

3,3,2,0,9,2,1,1,2,1,1

That's terrible, absolutely terrible. They're working with no margin at all.

Told myself after last years playoffs that I would not watch another playoff game until they changed their approach at the plate.

I can not stand the HR or nothing mentality. I rather they not make it to the playoffs then watch this offense.

someone called espn and said 25 percent of the cubs losses were when they scored 0 or 1 run. no doubt.

It's more than that. I don't have the exact number nearby, but they lost 68 times and scored 0-1 in about 35-36 of them.

I have always liked Machado better between the two. But the biggest need in my opinion is a great leadoff hitter. Schwarber has not turned into what we hoped he might and perhaps never will. Russell is no Barry Larkin, but may be a wife beater and will almost certainly be gone. A great 2nd baseman or CF that is a great leadoff hitter and steals bases, that is my Christmas wish. I really like Almora, but he doesn't steal bases and lacks power. If you don't hit for power, you need to have a really high OBP. He hits for average, but is OBP is not high enough due to a lack of walks. Haap is awful in CF and a strikeout machine. He will take walks, but it is truly amazing how many of his strikeouts are on pitches IN the zone. He misses strikes more than any player this side of Moncada. Changes are coming no doubt, but I'm not sure Harper will be one of them. But if it means they trade Schwarber and Russell for a great leadoff hitter that plays 2nd base, I'm all in on that.

Wasn't it Boston that let him go? And now they are a WAY BETTER hitting team. Maybe another change is in store?

He would have been 1st on the Cubs in: runs, walks, and HRs. Second in RBI.

If that is awful, give me as much awful as possible.

Machado had a better batting average, more HRs, more RBIs, and more stolen bases than Harper.

I do like that Harper gets on base 40% of the time. I’ll take either guy.

this isn't anything new though. the last couple years, even periods of the WS run, they had real problems scoring runs.

the critique that they feast on bad pitching throughout the season and then freeze during the playoffs is telling.

mendoza line last night was describing schwarber's "studying" of wade davis when he was going to face him and said he had to lay off or change his approach to whatever davis thought he was going to do. on a 2-0 pitch, schwarber swung at ball 3, high up and in. that was exactly what davis wanted to do, got him to chase, and wound up striking him out. schwarber is a dumb hitter.

If Schwarbs is going to continue batting .240-250 with average defense, he better be hitting 35-40hrs a year ala Adam Dunn

Schwarber should have been traded already. They will make the same mistake with Happ.

Game 4 of the 2005 World Series and Game 163 in 2008. The Chicago team playing in those games was able to win scoring 1 run.

Maybe letting guys fuck off instead of batting practice isn't such a great idea.

Why wasn't Bryant dropped in the lineup to like 9th?
