I dont agree with hiding all political posts from view active topics (which is really the only way anyone uses the board) but the unending shitshows that are threads like Trump Year 2 and Kavanaugh do need to go. Just delete them. It all amounts to a TRUMP GENERAL where people freak about something they will forget in a few days (or few hours). If someone wants to start a thread titled "TRUMP SHAKES JAPANESE PM'S HAND, DOESN'T BOW. OMFG" it will die almost instantly. But because a post like that gets put in Trump Year 2, a thread that has its own regulars and ecosystem, it keeps getting bumped because there is a meta-element to those megathreads that is pretty easily identifiable after you've seen it play out for the 500th time.

Putting political talk in general in time out was wrong. What should be allowed is political NEWS, where the relevant and important stories get "airtime" at the top of the board while pointless bullshit gets ignored the way it should be.

But the problem is that the number of posters who "want to be here" is dwindling AND overall engagement among the remaining posting population is plummeting. Darkside, Noisewater, Telegram Sam, Mr. Reason, DannyB and stoneroses86 all rank among the board's all-time greats, but all of these guys have gradually lost interest in the board and no longer post at their peak levels (It should be noted that while stoneroses now suffers from an illness that precludes him from posting, his interest in the board was waning prior to his diagnosis.). Even Bagels appears to have left!

In earlier years, the board could have sustained such losses because it managed to attract new "regulars" who continually revitalized the board. Such is no longer the case. The old guard is dying, CFMB lacks a new generation of emergent posters, and many of the relatively new core posters seem (consciously or unconsciously) committed to eviscerating the board rather than strengthening it.

Traffic and post totals are up since we assumed control of the board. In general people are complaining about where the posts are made and their tone. I would love to see more sports posts but the community prefers political thoughts despite all of the griping.

What periods are you comparing to measure the traffic and posting increases? And are you strictly counting post totals or diversity of posters contributing to the board? It seems like posting has consolidated among a relatively small group of individuals over the past year, though this group seems to post at a sometimes astonishing rate.

In any event, the board seems like it's dying to me, but I suppose only time will tell.

Comparing the data from July of 2016 until now. MANY posters may visit daily (Chus) but may not contribute for various reasons. Others are far more active than they ever were under BF. Some have rejoined the board and we have a handful of new members.

The board is alive and well. MANY have been predicting it's demise for over a decade. Changes at the Score are still being made because of this place.

I am not a member of incels.me, they would probably ban me if I posted there, but I understand its place on the internet. I think they have some good points. I think (almost) everyone has good points even if I am not always willing to admit it.

Only this board and ChiCitySports are left as places to talk Chicago sports. Everywhere else is gone. The Bears official forums are dead, NorthsideBB is garbage and has been garbage forever, Soxtalk with its redesign and now crazy quick ban trigger is circling the drain, NFL-Fans has been gone since like 2009, WSI is actually fairly vibrant but that pool is closed.

Its pretty remarkable that the CFMB is the one who came out on top. I had been familiar with this site for a long time and was shocked that it is the one that came out on top of the whole thing.

The biggest complaints have been about politics. Some have left the board because of politics. Now you have to actively look for the threads in the politics section. Those of us who like to discuss it won't have a problem. Those who don't won't have to see it and they can contribute in all the ways they were prevented from doing over the past 3 years.

Putting posts in a place where they will not be seen will kill off posts of that type.

I think they'll be seen. The regulars know where to go and new people will probably look at each section initially.

We removed the S and Fanatic clearly isn't only sports related.

The regulars make those posts so they can be seen by others. There is some catharsis in just posting shit but ultimately very nearly all of the political posts are made performatively. There's no audience anymore.

I've left my mark on the political side of this board, I'll live without it. But others wont, some of them may be a lot higher profile than you'd expect.

People also seem a lot more sensitive than they used to be. I think that creates a lot of built up anger which obviously leads to less enjoyment of the board and the eventuality of finding something you enjoy more with your time. I have a theory that it is because the board is getting older and many of us are in the stage of our lives where we are no longer the younger generation that is destroying things because of all of our strange ideas, laziness, and bad music.

When this board was filled with 20 somethings that didn't really care about stuff like that we wouldn't have pages of discussion(and anger) about someone lying about what a Devil's Triangle is. The 20 something in us would have laughed at that.

Poster reputation system that opens up extra permissions.

Social media sponsored post budget. We need an infusion of new blood to change the culture around here.

Worst ideas ever. I will make over 9000 accounts and pummel every Cubs thread into the dirt.

Keep in mind the people you are trying to pull one over on are smarter than you.

Isn't there companies that will do this for you,is numb tweet counts? I could see a few people here dropping $5 on a hundred post bump.

It didn't hurt that a couple of the shows would give the board free advertising by various shoutouts. That is how I find the place. Too bad we as a board burned those bridges.

I would love to see a monthly graph chart of LTG and JLN over the last 18 months compared to the board average.

A poster threatening to rape and murder someone's family might have given a few radio hosts pause on giving this place a shoutout.

I think everyone needs to remember that even though we may disagree it does not mean that it means I hate you. Seems to be getting lost in the political attacks.

When did he move back from New England to Illinois?

I think his mental decline may have begun shortly after his relocation to Naperville, which is understandable.

You've eliminated 93% of the board there.
