An upvote/downvote system with a threshold that makes a post/thread hidden would simply result in the board's liberal sect silencing the posters and discussion it doesn't like, which would result in a bunch of people remarking to one another how bad Trump is and how no, actually, THEY are outraged MORE about this than anyone else.

At that point, just straight up ban political talk.

The most popular thread on this site Julie DiCaro is essentially a political thread yet the vast majority of people have no problem with commenting in it however. Political talk isn't ruining the place lack of political civility probably detracts from it though.

But the problem is that the number of posters who "want to be here" is dwindling AND overall engagement among the remaining posting population is plummeting. Darkside, Noisewater, Telegram Sam, Mr. Reason, DannyB and stoneroses86 all rank among the board's all-time greats, but all of these guys have gradually lost interest in the board and no longer post at their peak levels (It should be noted that while stoneroses now suffers from an illness that precludes him from posting, his interest in the board was waning prior to his diagnosis.). Even Bagels appears to have left!

In earlier years, the board could have sustained such losses because it managed to attract new "regulars" who continually revitalized the board. Such is no longer the case. The old guard is dying, CFMB lacks a new generation of emergent posters, and many of the relatively new core posters seem (consciously or unconsciously) committed to eviscerating the board rather than strengthening it.

I don't think this is true. We had a huge Bears win on Sunday and the Cubs were getting ready to get their asses kicked on Monday and Tuesday but Kavanaugh and Trump threads dominated the discussion on the board. There was only a couple of people trying to contribute to the sports discussions.

Truthfully there are MANY who complain about the political threads but they don't try to add anything to other sections. They just complain for the sake of complaining.

Now you can't see the political threads unless you sign in and visit the politics section. We'll see if that makes the discussions in other threads more popular.

I like the idea of hiding the political threads. Could make it more attractive to someone just surfing for sports talk and decides to sign up and reading some of the sports threads.

Stop complaining, LTG. Man up and deal with it, knowing that is just how the board is, or just add a bunch of people to your foe list.
