Posters long for the good old days, when BigFan was a villain that united them all. Now that he's gone the grief he took is spread around, and some posters don't like it.

When this board was filled with 20 somethings that didn't really care about stuff like that we wouldn't have pages of discussion(and anger) about someone lying about what a Devil's Triangle is. The 20 something in us would have laughed at that.

Ya, I think leash is a good example of this. He was a fantastic poster in his yute.

When did he move back from New England to Illinois?

I think his mental decline may have begun shortly after his relocation to Naperville, which is understandable.

I stopped drinking. Clearly it takes booze to make you people even mildly tolerable.

At that point, just straight up ban political talk.

What's more, I think reddit found out that r/the_donald was spawned by the echo-chamber created by their upvote system.

The most popular thread on this site Julie DiCaro is essentially a political thread yet the vast majority of people have no problem with commenting in it however. Political talk isn't ruining the place lack of political civility probably detracts from it though.

Any chance of enabling the BBCode youtube embed function:

https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/bbcode/youtube/

would make posting sports high/low-lights, music clips, excerpts from Senate Judiciary Committee hearings more user-friendly.

That's really what this board needs. It's at its best whenever Julie is trying some new grift and we all unite in calling her out on it while also mocking Brick for contributing to it

Try to bring in more sports personalities for an "Ask ____ a question" thread. It used to happen before and I thought it was pretty successful.

Reddit is really gay. And social media is even worse. If people want those things it's not like there's a shortage of social media platforms or subreddits out there.

Anyone who still posts on message boards like these is doing so because they like message boards. What percentage of these types of boards are still around from the pre-Facebook high? The people who are here are here because they want to be, overhauling the entire system because you're still a butthurt little.baby over me making fun of your shark teeth is like burning down the forest just to get one tree

But the problem is that the number of posters who "want to be here" is dwindling AND overall engagement among the remaining posting population is plummeting. Darkside, Noisewater, Telegram Sam, Mr. Reason, DannyB and stoneroses86 all rank among the board's all-time greats, but all of these guys have gradually lost interest in the board and no longer post at their peak levels (It should be noted that while stoneroses now suffers from an illness that precludes him from posting, his interest in the board was waning prior to his diagnosis.). Even Bagels appears to have left!

In earlier years, the board could have sustained such losses because it managed to attract new "regulars" who continually revitalized the board. Such is no longer the case. The old guard is dying, CFMB lacks a new generation of emergent posters, and many of the relatively new core posters seem (consciously or unconsciously) committed to eviscerating the board rather than strengthening it.

So we are WCW circa 1999

I don't think this is true. We had a huge Bears win on Sunday and the Cubs were getting ready to get their asses kicked on Monday and Tuesday but Kavanaugh and Trump threads dominated the discussion on the board. There was only a couple of people trying to contribute to the sports discussions.

Truthfully there are MANY who complain about the political threads but they don't try to add anything to other sections. They just complain for the sake of complaining.

Now you can't see the political threads unless you sign in and visit the politics section. We'll see if that makes the discussions in other threads more popular.

I like the idea of hiding the political threads. Could make it more attractive to someone just surfing for sports talk and decides to sign up and reading some of the sports threads.

They're not exactly hidden. If you click on the politics section they are all there. MANY have still been contributing to it today. It's more about opening up view active topics for things people said they were interested in. Hopefully we'll get more activity and fewer complaints about political threads.

Stop complaining, LTG. Man up and deal with it, knowing that is just how the board is, or just add a bunch of people to your foe list.

I'm not a proponent of an ignore list. I will never place anyone on that. I don't whine about the overall state of the place either. Its a message board. If there are a lot of things that i don't like then i will simply leave

As possibly the single biggest beneficiary of the collegial fratboy b.s. is there any doubt that you'd see it that way?
The way that i post is evidence of "manning". Even with a fucked up leg i still never needed a crutch

I bet you P.M. people that you believe are your guys whenever they step out of the circle.

You also are one of the chief complainers regarding Pol threads yet you expect the world to wait with baited breath for your next attempted takedown of Keyser.

I've said this before and have been mostly ridiculed for it but I do not care. I think that no one ought to be able to alter what other people say in a post in order to defame them and attack them. That is total bullshit in my eyes.
