I think a WS appearance would do the trick.

Playoffs is fine minus the frequent panicking.
So a loss in the 2019 Wild Card game is "fine"?

I don't consider that playoffs.

Cubs fans do. I've heard "four straight playoff appearances from MANY here on this board. Some even refer to the 2015 game against the Pirates as a 'postseason series' win.

Agree with Nas, the WC game really isn't the playoffs. It's World Series or bust every year. Last year was the supposed hangover, even though Houston didn't have that, but whatever makes everyone feel better. This year we've heard several more excuses.

Its outrageous for them not to be in discussion with him about an extension but I feel no pity for that back stabbing, job stealing, fake hippy. Reap what you sew Joe. When you marry an unfaithful spouse don't be surprised when you are similarly cheated upon

Unless he takes them deep next year he is gone. There is no way he does not have a big turn over in coaches.

I've been saying for the last month that this team reminds me of the 1987 Bears who lost to Washington in the first round.

They will figure it out. Young team and plenty of cash. Easy.

It's a concern Joe is never mad after a loss. He heaps praise after praise on himself and his players. He talks about the teams culture as it's more important than winning. It's not all Joe. Baseball is far different than in the past. No one knows what the Cubs window of competitiveness will be. Lots of guys on the team once prospects aren't all star caliber. Top 3 minor league prospects traded. No young drafted arms stepping in to contribute like the Rockies and Brewers. Miserable free agent signings. There's a lot to be positive about but Theo's got his hands full for a mess he made.

The players love Maddon. Dont confuse you and other frustrated fans with the players he has close relationships with, constantly protects and won a world series with.

He's going to do it again to Ricky next year when he goes to the Sox.

He's old AF, it's crazy to negotiate an extension now. Get to the WS or GTFO. This ain't the subdivision, we have high standards.

Everyone thought the players loved Maddon in Tampa Bay too until he left.

While it wasn't the exact same, everyone thought that Miguel Montero was liked in the clubhouse until he was sent packing. It's pretty rare for public shows of dissent.

I'd say if everyone loved Joe in the locker room and the front office he wouldn't be going into his last year without a contract extension.

I didnt say anything about the front office and the Tampa players not liking Joe is myth propagated by gd based on one quote of a guy answering a loaded question saying the silliness got a little old (after praising Maddon to begin with)

Montero was loved in the clubhouse, until he ran his mouth ripping other teammates. That's why they turned on him, understandably.

As far as the players liking Maddon? Yes, it seems like they do.

The front office and fans may not be on the same page though. No one said everything is great. Nice try, clown.

Which teams have players who don't love the manager?

THIS.
In any way he's a scapegoat. The question is what's better for the FO....this year or next year.

Bryant likely gets healthy rebounds back to form. Rizzo is Rizzo. Baez still very good but settles back to norm a bit.

The problem is Lester a year older. Zobrist older. Lots of $$ wasted on Darvish with no value, Heyward still here. Schwarber is a DH in the National League. Bullpen still weak. Oh....then there's the fact even if the players do love Joe....his in-game management is God-Awful.

The team will be good again, but it's not the 2016 team....not even close. Firing Joe next year makes more sense.

Yup. The past two seasons really shows how historically weak the 2016 NL was.

I think part of the problem is the line of bullshit you fans were given about how great and special and unique these Cubs are that the great Theo has put together. Right now the team has two division championships and two wild card finishes. Look at that outside of your Cub perspective. It's good. It's not great. It isn't the Braves of the past (as that team has been thrown around as an occasional comp). It isn't even the Dodgers who, at the same time, won four division championships (and six in a row). They are not the team of the '10s predicted by humps like Joe Sheehan. They are just a good team near the top but certainly not head and shoulders above anyone else.

It seems like Theo reached this realization yesterday as well.

No, it doesn't. And according to you the 2015 NL was great. You're all over the place.

FFS...let it go.
The 2016 Cubs were good. Despite having several key injuries that Indians team was stacked....very good. The Cubs beat them. They would likely have been any other AL team in the WS. They were good. Please stop being THAT kind of Sox fan.
